Yes, all software is completely up to date, as is Windows XP, also have the newest sound drivers, also tried the last set of drivers..same things still happened. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Thanks....I have, after many hours on hold, and finally talking to the right person, Dell is sending out a replacement machine, then I will return this one. Their service is awesome once you talk to the right people..thanks for everyones help.
Did you have to return your whole machine? because I have a problem with my headphone port. My external speakers will work with everything but my headphone jack only gets out like one channel or something. I'll hear the music on mp3s but i wont hear the singing. Somebody help please.
Yep, they are sending out a new one, and when it gets here, I need to box up this one and send it back to them....... at least I get to wiat till the new one shows up.
Not exactly strange, The Broadcom modem I believe is a software device, and software devices have a horrible ability to screw up the performance of a computer.

I also have a new 9100 but I have not had any problems with the sound, in games or otherwise.
I would seriously consider the hardware might be faulty and get onto tech support post haste.
Good luck with it.

Hi all
I have also no sound on my 8600/Sigmatel internal card (four days after receiving and installing office, and Norton)
looking is this forum, I see that SEVERAL of us have trouble
does some know from what it is coming from ??? some incompatibilites, bugs ???
Last trick the Dell tech asked me to try, is to remove the modem (strange is not it !)
thanks for your advise

Hi all,
The sound problem on my 8600 was solved by the DELL technician who came home : he changed the mother board !!!
I hope it will not come back, if there is a weackness some where !
The 8600 failed after four days
