sim,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If you can get to the internet, then some type of networking is running?  Can you provide some additional details about your setup?  Are you connecting directly to the company network?

Please check the Device Manager(Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager) for anything with a red X or a yellow circle with a black exclamation mark.

It's not recommended, but try disabling XP's built-in firewall on the C/Port network port.

I have the same problem with my C400, running Windows XP Professional.  I just got the docking station (C/Port II), so don't know if it is Windows XP problem or not.

When my computer is docked, the Local Area Connection will not recognize the connection with the ethernet port on the C/Port.  I can get to the internet via my wireless connection (sharing off others in the building).

When I un-dock the computer, and connect the LAN to the ethernet on the computer, it works fine.

I tried disabling, and removing the ethernet controller from the Device Manager, and then restarting while having the computer docked, but no help.  The ethernet port on the computer is recognized, but no connection when plugged in the LAN trhough the C/Port?

When I looked for the Quick-Dock drivers on the Dell site, I noticed they are for Windows 2000 and below, with no support for Windows XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am having a similar issue with  a Dell C610, XP Pro and the C/Port II, when I install the 3Com #C920 drivers the integrated NIC on the laptop works fine, but the docking NIC won't work.  I get prompted to install new drivers, so I know it detects the C/PORT NIC, but when I install the drivers the NIC still does not work.

Hey- has this issue been resolved with a driver install/etc?

I ran W2K pro and C/Dock 2 without a problem, now after upgrading to XP pro, I get:

Boot computer in docking station, I get about 5 seconds of the XP boot page, then the signal to the monitor (plugged into the docking station) stops, and that's it!

Any suggestions?  If I look in the device manager for "recently connected" new hardware, it detects nothing that would indicate a new driver is required.  I have the OEM driver disc provided with shipment of my C400...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

As far as I was able to tell, you cannot install any new drivers when running XP.  All of the drivers are older versions that are not compatible after Win 2000, and the OS for XP will not let you install the drivers.

I have still not gotten a fix to this problem.  If you find out how to fix the porblem, please put in a post.  Thanks!

When are working XP Professional drivers for the integrated network connection on the C/Port going to be available ? This is causing pain for many owners of your products. How do I (we) get this issue escalated ?

I've put in a request to Dell via e-mail support asking them to take a look at this thread and deal with this.  I love how my C400 proudly displays "Designed for Windows XP"...

BRAVO ! thanks for making it more formal.

I contacted Dell e-mail support- their troubleshooting included creating a new hardware profile within XP.  The link sent was:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308577

Likewise, Dell support suggested that I install SP1a, found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx

This unfortunately still did not rectify the problem, and therefore I'm apparently getting a new docking station sent to me.

Hope this helps- I'll keep you all posted on whether this works...

ISSUE RESOLVED:

Here's what I did - after reading the long post at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1046542322, I got to thinking. Just like I was, I'll bet most of you are trying to plug the ethernet connection from the C Port into some network device or connection running 10/100 Mbs. NOT WITH XP PRO RUNNING THROUGH THIS THING YOU'RE NOT. The 3COM NIC chipset Dell use on this thing is freakin' ancient.

From the post above I followed the link and downloaded "ZEDE5ALL.EXE" from http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?releaseid=R35812&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
After unpacking the archive with WINZIP in a temp directory, I ran "UPDATE DRIVER" from the utilities for that network connection. Force the utility to point to the aforementioned test dir and let XP select the default card (3C905TX I think).
THE CRITICAL STEP: go to the ADVANCED tab and manually set the speed for the link using that adapter to 10Mbs Full Duplex. As soon as I did this, the thing worked just fine.

I hope this helps anyone else experiencing the same problem...JR
