XPS 8930, Driver detection not available

I have recently setup a new XPS 8930 and, after asking why Driver Detection was not available and spending ages on a remote support link with a Dell engineer yesterday, I was told that he could not answer my question or say when the issue would be resolved. When running Driver Detect with service tag answer always is “Driver detection not available". Please try again later or use the Find it Myself tab to find drivers by Service Tag or see a list of drivers available for your product.”. Poor showing from Dell compared to my Lenovo where driver update  always works even on old PCs!

I wish I had an answer, as I am still running into the same issue.  When I run Dell Support Assist it tells me view my updates online, which takes me to driver detection and when I run it, I get the same message: "Driver detection not available Please try again later or use the Find it Myself tab to find drivers by Service Tag or see a list of drivers available for your product."  I thought is was just me!  It works fine on my XPS 13 laptop.

Do you also have an XPS 8930?

How long ago were these systems purchased? If you purchased it directly from Dell, it may take maybe ~2 weeks before your Service Tag gets registered in their system which might affect your ability to use the automated driver detection.

If you purchased the PC from a Big Box store, you have to register the Service Tag yourself.

And you can always download the latest drivers manually, as long as you know which hardware (eg, video card, WiFi card, etc) you have in your system, which should be on the paperwork that came with the PC, or you can look in Windows Device Manager for that info.

Hi Ron - great questions.  I bought my PC (XPS 8930) at Costco mid-November 2017.  I registered it that day.  Interestingly enough, as of today Support Assist works and is now showing available downloads and drivers.  I have been downloading needed drivers manually prior to today.  I wonder if our postings caused someone to turn something on for XPS 8930 registered owners?

Glad it's working for you now.

It seems more likely it was just a delay in getting new Service Tags registered in their system...

Unfortunately, we still don't know if the problem has been resolved for DCGSyd.

Enjoy your new toy.
