Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary. Please delete the old copy (including the zip copy) so it can't be used. ===================================== Check these in hijackthis, AND WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, fix checked.

Re slowness - seek advice in the windows XP board - on all the 04 entries in your log as to f they need to run at startup - they will help you.
can I just clarify something Chris? So are you saying I need to make a new folder each time I run HJT? And then I need to delete the old folder? Also how do I unzip HJT into the new Folder? Thank you.
sorry once again for being such a dumb as% when it comes to these things. Are you saying then that I am running it correctly? I guess I just do not understand how I am supposed to use the program once I downloaded it to my computer. Do I need to put it in a special folder?

From this I can see that you are running from a zipped copy - not a copy in a normal folder.
You only need the one copy - please be aware that a new version is due out shortly (hours or days).

No you did not run it correctly.
The file 'hijackthis.exe' should be sitting in a folder (name does not matter - but say c:\hjt )
That you have (I think) is the file 'hijackthis.zip' (which contains hijackthis.exe) in that folder.
Here is a tutorial I did for unzipping another file/folder (PV) - it will explain the 'method' of doing so.

and Texruss's FAQ on hijackthis

Which might help
