iXPS with SpeedStep doesn't seem to be 'stepping down'

Question

Hello, I recently purchased a Inpsiron XPS, and am overall extremely happy with my purchase. I seem to have a problem with only running at 3.4 GHz. Even when on Portable/Laptop power setting on battery. It runs the battery down extremely fast. I would really like help with resolving this issue. Thanks in Advance

90 mins- tops. I really feel this could be largely impacted by the processor always running at 3.4 GHz. Regards,

I was reading about the iXPS and have been unable to find anything referring to SpeedStep- does it feature it?

The XPS utilizes a P4 chip and as such doesn't support Speedstep. You would have had to purchase one of the laptops with the Pentium M line for speed step.

The video card does support a speedstep sort of system but the battery savings from that are minimal.
