What I can't get WMP 12 to do is let me drop music files in a playlist it let me create.  I've also tried it another computer in case it was just my Win7.  It'll let me play by file by right clicking on it, but that's not the normal way I want to play music on it.  My music should just be there in the player categorized the way I want.  I had no trouble with WMP 9.  I don't favor WMP's 10 & 11 as much.

You mean like this?

Hi @Tesla1856,

Thanks for replying.  I've noticed you know your stuff too.  You're 2nd pgh. in #1 is kind of funny, so I'm not offended.  I'm not the only person that tried to hang on to WMP 9.  I also have Apple's QuickTime.

1. May be Win7 on one HDD and Win7 Pro or etc. in XP mode on the other?

2. What is my best bet?  I can give up on XP for a media player I like.

Brad, buddy ... I've read some your posts. You know your stuff.

1. No, you would just run Win-7 Pro only. The XP-Mode is just a supplied Virtual Machine that runs from it's desktop (in a window).

I don't mean to offend, by this might be the worst reason to stick with XP (or even Windows-7) that I have ever heard.

2. I'm guessing your are anti-Apple. That's fine. You are anti-Paid-Music-Service ... that's fine too. Lets' say you just want to buy CDs, rip your own music, and play those files.

Let's say you are running Windows-10 Pro 64bit. Sure there is the (kinda lame) Groove app, but what is it that full Windows Media Player v12 doesn't do

What mobile hardware device do you play your MP3 files from?

I was also thinking of the same thing - just having Win7 Pro or better on one HDD and the 2nd HDD for storage.  As for Win7, then XP mode is there if I want it.

1. Right. One drive for Windows-OS and installed programs. Storage of data-files (like MP3s) on other drives.

2. Right. But for that matter, you can run just Windows-10. Then, run XP or whatever else inside a Virtual Machine. That is all XP-Mode is.

But really ... even Windows-7 is 3 versions of Windows behind. Windows-10 is what you want to be running (as long as your machine can handle it).

And finally, I'm sure there is a way to create your MP3 PlayLists on Windows-10. If not using bundled Media Player-12, then using some other currently available and supported software.

Thanks for the link! :)  I'll give it a try.

I just don't favor the appearance of WMP10.  Making playlists works the same on 9, 10, & 11, if I remember right.

You likely already know - If somebody wants to run two OS's on 2 separate drives - Upon power up, F12 for Boot Menu, then select HDD to load from.  I'm also familiar with 2 OS's on one drive.  Menu to select automatically comes up just as in Win7.  I tried Vista one time to check out its WMP, and that was it.

I like your use of emojis.

Not usually.

However, I would take a full Macrium Reflect Image anyway ... just in case it goes sideways.

As for Win10, I have the minimums exceeded.

If one wants to upgrade their CPU, do they have to reload their OS?

You can do it either way.

Anyway, photo viewers are a dime-a-dozen. Find one you like and associate it to your pic files.

Hi again @Tesla1856,

I'm a happy camper.  I had a feeling it was something that would seem simple once past it and sure enough. After creating playlist, music either has to be dropped in "Play" pane or right click to add to the current playlist in the same pane.  "Save" has to be clicked when done.

I've had my Dell refurb with Win7 for almost 2 yrs. doing this and that with it health permitting (like adding l.e.d. blue lit fans; painting the front grill silver cuz the flat black was too ugly; etc.).  I can finally make playlists and it's slick.  Anybody I know outside of Dell Community didn't have the answer.

Good.

At least we got you caught-up to Windows-7.  See, that wasn't so hard.

If it's Windows-7 Pro, I bet you can still upgrade it to Windows-10 for free. :Gift:

I reviewed that link again - But what I don't know is how to play 'All Music' with WMP 12.

Up at the top menu, you click Music / All Music ... and then click Play button.

Sure enough, easier than expected.

Would a quad CPU change system to 64-bit from 32?  I don't know hardly know a thing about chipsets or if that has anything to do with it.

I want to expand my RAM to the max 8GB in my Optiplex 755 MT.  I've read in a few places that if any of the versions of Windows are on 32-bit, they only use a max of 4GB.

I've had some skips in using recording studio software, my reasons for wanting to expand.  Speed was pretty good though.  Updating to a different Dell is also in mind.
