DROOOOOOL.   :-D

Of course given the specialization of laptops in general, there is only one way to have another laptop with same "identical" hardware as an I8600 and that is to have an I8600 with an ATI card in it.

I just wish that Dell didn't have its shills preaching the "gospel of abandonment" to all of us I8200 owners.

Frankly, I don't think Dell will sell 9600 on 8600 because they already have contract with Nvidia to sell their chips on the their laptops. They have contract with ATI to sell radeon 9000 only. It'll be very messy if Dell sells both 5600 and 9600 and end up get sued. So, it looks like Dell will NOT sell ati 9600 at all. Contract is contract.

that review, exact same hardware, etc? YEAH RIGHT.. NEVER believe everything you read on web! I never do.

i guess dell will wait a while... after couple weeks after the initial volumn shipment of 8600.. so less people qualify for return.

or charge high price for the new card. maybe a $150 premium will be enough to put many poeple off.

It would be the same hardware if they had one laptop and 2 vid cards.

by hardware they are probably referring to the basic compents of all computers. Meaning they each had same processor, hdd, ram, and all that junk. It is easy to configure 2 laptops exactly the same. They could have been using an hp or compaq because ati has contracts with them for its higher cards. And the previous poster is correct, dell and nvidia have been in buisness for awhile, and pretty much all of their top model laptops in the past few years have featured nvidia cards, so it is unlikely it will change all of a sudden.

I very much doubt you have any inside info on what contracts Dell does and doesn't have. However, going on past evidence, I would not entirely rule out the 9600 pro appearing - Dell has switched suppliers often enough in the past.

I hope they put the M10 in the 8600/8500 platform. Here's the picture that was removed that the 9600 was being tested in, widescreen, notice the silver slivers where the red thingy didn't cover it all up. The specs also matched an 8500.

I want the card from the original I8200 that was being shown around before they switched to the covered up I8500/I8600

It is rumored that Dell may drop nvidia altogether due to their recent card debacles. That would be a good move.

I am not scheduled to receive my i8600 until early next month. Hopefully before then Dell will offer ATI. If not I will cancel my order and go with another company that offers a laptop with R9600.

We shall see.  Hopefully if the radeon 9600 is as good as it seems, then Dell would be foolish not to offer it in the 8600 line.
