Omega drivers installed ... and I must say: it does a very good job of trying to boost frame rates. Just like others in this thread have suggested ... you can run a few console commands to turn off the gun, remove some advanced options in the System command on the main menu (WARNING: you may not be enjoying the game as it should be when this is done...but ull still love the game). But, while you await better support ... these are minor solutions to help u play some.

I tried Doom 3 at 1280x800 (native resolution) at medium settings noAA/noAF and I only got 22fps in demo 1. I turned off shadows and it jumped up to 33 fps. It drags at times while playing but I think these are the settings that I'm going to stick with...Doom 3 in widescreen is great.

Remember I have only 2.8 and 64 mb 9700. Results for those of you with beefer 9100/XPS may be better.

How to set 1280x800??? Doom runs only with 1024x768 or 1280x1024, no change to set a widescreen res. Is there a patch or do I have to edit the config?

1. pull down the console (ctrl, alt, ~)
2. set the resolution you want by setting the r_customheight and r_customwidth vars

r_customwidth 1280
r_customheight 800

then set r_mode to -1

r_mode -1

then simply restart the video with
vid_restart

I'm unsure if the 1280x800 setting sticks (i have only done it once). I imagine that you have to type that at console every time or put it in an autoexec.cfg file.

Works great! Thx! Now it's in my autoexec. Demo1 1280x800, settings high, seta image_anisotropy "0" without shadows 35.1 fps.

Hope that is enough to play!

Cheers!

Well, check this out:

All effects off, 640x480, 16 bpp colors, lowest quality - 9.2 fps

Inspiron 8600 1.5, 512Mb, 4200rpm HDD, fx5200 Go 32 Mb

demo1 is like a slow-motion movie, especially where the fire balls fly. Quite difficult to play tbh.

The main bottleneck's your vid card and it's memory. I believe no video card below 64MB video ram is actually playable for this behemoth. However, you should be able to push it a bit more with the latest video drivers. Good luck !
