Assuming you have everything set up correctly, the IP address you need to connect to from "outside" is the router's Internet IP address and the port you've set up to be forwarded to the camera. The router should then forward the traffic to the LAN IP address of the camera. Did you try that? Or are you saying that the camera has its own IP address, routeable on the Internet?

Hi Jim,
thanks for the reply. This is what I did, on the router's web page, under advance settings, I entered the info under IP address reservation. Then I went under Port forwarding and introduced the info in incoming port (# corresponding to the camera 1024), the destination IP (the camera's IP, that was given when I installed it and it's within the IP range of the router) the camera's MAC, the destination port (same as incoming) and under port type, I've tried tcp and both.
At this point I asked a friend to try to view the page both using the IP of the camera and the wan IP or the router (given unde basic setting for the router)and failed in both cases.
I have also tried enabeling DMZ with the IP of the camera and nothing.
what other IP# should I try?
Can you please "walk me" thru all the steps, I spent 6.5 hrs last sunday trying to solve this talking to both dell and linksys (maker of the camera). Thanks.

I'm assuming you can access the camera's Web server from the LAN side without problems. Could it be that your ISP doesn't allow servers on your connection? You'd said you were using Port 1024 for the mapping, so if they are, it isn't just a case of their blocking Port 80 (the usual port for Web servers).

What should work from outside is http://your.wan.ip.address:1024. So from inside, assuming a one-to-one port mapping, that would be http://camera.lan.ip.address:1024. Note that the camera's LAN IP address won't work from outside. Since you only have one routeable IP address (the 2300's WAN IP address), there really aren't any other IP addresses to try.

What exact error message does your friend receive when they try to access the camera?

The steps in the manual are pretty clear, and it sounds like you've followed them. So I'd suggest looking for possible external problems, such as ISP blocking.

Hi Jim,

sorry or the delay, I reviewed all the steps, did a power cycle on all the components and now everything works. I am ab;e to see the camera thru explorer and within the house network.
Thank you for your assistance and again sorry for the delay in answering and thanking you

You're certainly welcome! It sounds like something (probably the 2300) needed a reboot in order for the settings to become effective. Glad you got it all working, and thanks for posting back with the results!
