I agree - it is a shame to use dialup when you have fast access mode available. I REFUSE to use dialup mode #1) because I do not have dialup service and #2) I will not get dialup because I pay for the high speed service and I refuse to pay for another service as well.

It is obvious that this router has a problem...I wonder if Dell can send me a different one?

I to have a 1184 and it doesn't work after many calls and setting adjustments. The linksys people I talked to said that the same problem could happen on their router but that I could return it if it didn't work. I also have a 1150 tm card . This sounds like the way to go. What model is the linksys?

I too have an 1184 dell router and can not get webcams to work on yahoo or winmx  music to download..I have tried opening the ports to no avail. Does Dell every read these messages and do anything about these problems..I just bought a new dell computer and a router for my wife and now I have all these problems with my computer that won't do what it used to do. Come on someone do something

heh heh... must be that heralded dell service that "the interns" are always frothing about!

p.s. no, i'm convinced no one from dell reads these forums - otherwise, there would've been at least acknowledgement many months ago that they know this to be an issue.  i haven't done it yet, but i'm about to dump this router and go with linksys or comparable - who actually pays attention to customer complaints and MORE IMPORTANTLY offers solutions!

IT IS FIXED!!!!

Well, after 56 minutes with Dell Wireless support, we fixed the webcam issue.  Here's all you need to do:

1.  Download new firmware for the router thru Download tab at the top of this page.

2.  Update the firmware thru the router menu accessed thru your web browser.

This should fix the incompatabiliy issue.

Good luck!

Hi

Thanks for your reply to my problem about webcams at yahoo and my router.

I went to download firmware at top download tab and the only devices that had new firmware for was for a cd-rw drive and nothing listed there for my router.

Can you tell me how I get this new firmware.

Thanks Again

Sorry I failed to list the filename of the firmware to d/l.

It's called R50888.  Download this file to your Dell/Drivers folder then use the router software, my.router to update the firmware.  The program will ask for the location of the driver and you can specify.

Hope this helps,

David

I have had the same problem and spent hours of wasted time trying to decipher what people in India were telling me to do to fix this problem, none of which worked. I have not tried thie firmware thing yet but how can this possibly work? The file is dated 10/22/02!!  I got my computer after this time which make me believe it already has this firmware installed.

Dell support is a joke.

Hi all...Here is the solution for viewing the webcam with system on 1184 router. if you downgrade your router firmware to 1.73; thee webcam will work perfectly fine .download the firmware from the following link       .http://support.dell.com/filelib/download.aspx?FileID=60156&ReleaseID=R50888 . No need for port forwarding, no need for DMZ, nothing . you can also see the instructions like how to perfom the task.it also resolves the "Reverse DNS" problem . only the issue with 1.73 is the router might get lock at sometimes ,That was something that got fixed in later revisions.

In addition to the problem with webcams I believe the router interferes with ICQ messaging. Perhaps 20% of the messages get through. I never had any probe before using this router.

I downloaded that file and when I tried to use it through my router webpage through upgrade firmware I got an error message that said

UPGRADE FIRMWARE ERROR

THE ORIGINAL IMAGE WILL  BE KEPT

I still cannot get this thing to work?

Anyone have any ideas????

goober. yes. easy to fix. that happened to me also. You have to FIRST double click on the file where you placed it, that will open it up and make a little folder where u will see a read only file and the actual file. When you go to the upgrade firmware page browse to THAT file and it will work. You did what I did and pointed it to the unopened file.

Hey Thanks Guadman and everyone else for their help. It worked and my cam now works on Yahoo.  I take back my previous negative comments. This forum works.

anyone else have the same problem I have with ICQ?  It doesn't seem to have fixed that. A lot of messages to me from other people never arrive.  This is all since I started using this router.
