The A03 BIOS from Dell for the Inspiron 9100 will not install.

It can't be completely broken, since I downloaded and ran it yesterday to upgrade from A01 to A03. It worked perfectly for me, and, in addition, cured the problem I was having with the fans constantly going at full blast.

I suppose it's possible your download was corrupt, so perhaps you might want to try again knowing it was successful at least for one person...

Good luck!

I had the same trouble....decided to not flash the bios until I get more answers....Like the previous reply I suppose I could try another d'load..but why?...I will go with the old adage...if it ain't broken I will not fix it?....maybe in a while dell will have an answer....until then....best to leave well enough alone...

I'm having the same problem with my 9100. Doom 3 won't run for more then a few minutes before freezing and then I have to hard restart or whatever.

jeepfreak,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

I doubt this issue has anything to do with your BIOS. I would try updating the video drivers.
Also, you may look to make sure you have the normal open GL driver and installed.

My word Dell Corey,

Yes I do believe you when you say that updated video drivers would fix it, but Dell havent released updated video drivers for the card built into the 9100

Shocker eh? You know what else? ATi dont publish drivers for the card in the Dell 9100 either. Time for what I laughingly refer to as 'the big one' ATi claim that it is up to the vendor to create device drivers for the mobility series of cards.

Thats right folks, Dell is the only company that can produce updated ATi drivers for Dell laptops with ATi cards in them.

Now jeepfreak I know and you know that we would pass out and suffocate before Dell actually release a new video driver for this card so I recommend that you track down the omega drivers. These are unsupported but generally incorporate the latest ATi fixes. Give them a try.

I am the same here with the old adage "It ain't broken, dont fix it". I don't see much improvement with the A03 BIOS, so I am not really compelled to do the BIOS upgrade.

BTW, I run Doom 3 at 1024 x 768 smoothly, except when there are tons of monster and it start to stutter, but not much. I am using Omega Driver 2.4.4.4 (new one seems to have issues).

Only thing I am tryin to fix is that when playing Battlefield 1942 / Vietnam, there are LONG HDD activity that cause the game to stutter so much it became unplayable.

Hello Lanwarrior, I found stuttering sometimes when playing some games, but I have found that lowering the sound quality in the game helps a lot. It certainly went a long way to making Call of Duty playable on this machine. I wish Dell had put a hardware audio controller on these laptops instead of the software based P.O.S. that is used. As a matter of fact, I'm going to buy a Mac g4 laptop, longer battery life same video card same memory same hd capacity smaller casing lighter and abacklit keyboard with decent audio support.

Hi K0rs0,

I think that AND the fact that I only have 512 Mb of RAM. I can play Call of Duty without stuttering and Doom 3 ditto. but when it comes to BF1942 and BF Vietname, then it happens. I ran the game, then pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del and found under Task Manager the game is taking 659 MB of RAM (??). I think nowadays most laptop uses AC97 sound card instead of, say, Audigy.

This is great. I can now run doom 3 flawlessly. All I had to do was download and install the new catalyst 4.9beta drivers, along with a tweak to be able to use with the mobility chips..and Wah-lah! No more freezing even after hours of gameplay.

I read all of the threads and one person said Omega 2.4.4.4 is what I need and the other person downloaded a Catalyst 4.9 Beta driver!?

Can someone please tell me where I can download these drivers and what exactly I need to do?

I am trying to play Doom3 and it keeps freezing up on me, I did the Dell chat thing and all they had to say is "they are working day and night to find a soultion."  Well I don't have "day and night"  I wanna play Doom3!!!

I have the Inspiron 9100 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.

Could someone please email me detailed instructions and links to where I can download the drivers to make doom play without freezing!?

 My email is JessicaNicole_86@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Jessica

I had the exact same problem trying to flash the bios.  I had even copied the bios update file from the folder where I had saved it to the desktop as suggested.  Guess what?  It still didn't work.  I finally downloaded the bios update file directly to the desktop.  Tried it one more time.  Worked perfectly.  Why?  I have no idea.  It just worked.  Anyone still having trouble might give this a try.  Download the file directly to your desktop and then doubleclick it.

Hope this helps.  :)))
