how to use "save operations" field using NMC (networker GUI)

Hi,

My requirement is that i DONT want VSS ASR DISK:\ to be backed up.

Hence i want to use "save operations" field from the networker GUI (NMC).

Question >> does anyone knows, in NMC GUI, what command can i give in the save operations field which will make the VSS ASR DISK exclude from backup.

Many thanks.

Kindly note:- This i would like to perform only on few networker clients only.

hence i want to go to client and in the save operations field, i need to mention some command so that command can result in excluding the "VSS ASR DISK:\"

currently the saveset is " All " which also includes VSS SYSTEM FILES, VSS SYSTEM SERVICES, VSS ASR DISK.

My requirement >> only the "VSS ASR DISK" should not be backed up (all other VSS needs to be backed up) and i want to do it from NMC only.

Thanks,

Vaibhao

Hi. I spent alot of time trying to figure this out and opened a case at EMC and asked them is this was possible. They said it was not possible.

Then later I was reading the admin guide I found that you can state the Save set All with a parameter so it will exclude the VSS savesets (see page 64 on NW 7.6.3 admin guide).

This is very important since the Server 2008 VSS and disaster recovery savesets are very big and you want to direct thos savesets to a different pool (prefferably deduplication pool). To to this use this save set: All-ntfs   Hope this helps.

With saveset All you can't do it as All means - all.  And directives do not apply to VSS savesets.

You can use all-ntfs and skip all VSS SYSTEM things, but that is not what you want.

Finally, you can manually defined savesets and leave out ASR one.

I checked in my env and I have those only for Win2k3 clients and they do not appear to be big at all thus I see no reason why to be bothered with it.  If you want, then just define manually what you want in save-set list.
