I should add. I have the 2300 working with my cable connection and LAN pcs. While following the instructions for installing the 2300 for the first time, this failed. I made sure my pc was directly connected to the internet via my cable modem, and that I had a valid connection. Running the setup program on the 2300 CD as instructed told me that it couldn't verify my connection! I could clearly browse the web. Tried this several times, gave up, and just plugged in the 2300.
I now have the 2300 configured and working to the point where, as original poster states, wireless is showing up with an X, but my internet and lan connections are ok based on the device status of the router.
With the info you have posted i seems that if you don;t have a wireless card nearby to test it will not beable to verify the wireless connection. otherwise is looks liek your radio might be disabled. the red X usually means something is disabled
