Some of us work during the day and can not post answers to questions during the day.

For the 8500, Dell was selling the the Media Bay Hard drive carrier through its spare parts division.

Dell Community Member, benwilard, has purchase the "D" series hard drive media bay carrier.  The part number is 4P124 for $29.95 plus $8 s&h and it did not come with the screws.  He was able to purchase the 2.5mm screws at Ace Hardware.  You may have a hard time with the sales reps there.  It seems they are not very familiar with the parts for Dell's new computers yet.

You will need to purchase this through the Accessories, Spare parts division.  The only way to do this is to call them to place the order.  Do not call the standard sales division because they will have no clue as to what you are talking about.  It probably will have this descriptor: part number 4p124 2nd, Module, Media Bay Hard Drive carrier for the Inspiron 600m. Even though it says that it is for the 600m, it will also work for the 8500.

To order these parts, you must call Dell Spare Parts at 1-800-357-3355 ext. 69937 or 1-800-449-3355 ext. 69937 or 1-800-624-9896, select option 2, then 2, then 4.   One of these numbers should work for you.

Oh thank you very much Bay Wolf!  I will call them tomorrow morning since they are closed at the moment.  I called them earlier cause I found the threads where you mentioned something similar, but wasn't sure if it would work for the 8500 since the question was concerning the 8200.  Also do you know what the part number for the 8200 cause my friend tried calling Dell and they said they only sell the bay with the hdd.  Thanks again!

Just installed a 60GB HDD in the modular bay but My Computer is not showing it. Device Manager detects it but there is no way I can access it. Any advice? Do I need to format it first? If so, how can I do that (since I couldn't access it in WinXP)?

Thanks!
