Something to try,
Uninstall the ATI Video Driver & related software.
Install the Omega Driver for ATI Cards

So, thank you! This has corrected my problem. Now both analogue and DVI work without crashing. The F8 key does toggle proerly between the 3 modes.
The resolution with DVI connector allows me to use the very high resolution settings and get crisp images.
