I've used those before for example 61.77 and they improve the performance for Doom 3 for example, but after a while I get a blue screen, the driver gets stuck in an infinite loop. So I've had to uninstall it all and go back to the Dell drivers, believe me I've tried it all.

It shouldnt be neccessary to use modded drivers either, Dell should have the decency to update their drivers accordingly.

What is the point of buying a computer / upgrading it if you cannot get new drivers which are compatible with new games and programs?

Its been almost one year since they updated their drivers for the video card.

agree with you chram !

i made an "aggressive" thread about this issue , and moderator took it off , and told me he can put me out of DELL forum !so if you dont see me around soon , you'l know why !

they consider only XPS and 9100 as "gaming notebook" , but the truth is since geforec440 and ati 9000 mobile GPU , all of those have dedicated memory , and are made for high performance graphiq ! plus GPU like FX5650 and ATi9600 are DX9 hardware compatible ,  wich make theme high end GPU !

i also have try modded driver , wich often cause other problem !  so look like we are all hostage of DELL support with our  multimedia/gaming   laptop

it would be a big marketing target to be the first laptop manufacturer who provide descent video driver release ( at least 4 times a year ) , dont need to go to marketing school to learn this .

I am equally upset with support (or more to the point lack of) from Dell. The bean counters at this glorified box shifting oufit are more interested in their shareholders than customers who have shelled out hard earned cash.

I use 3dsMax 6 on my 8600 (I know I should use the M60 but can't afford it) and have tried nearly every modded  driver, but they are unstable and unreliable. I have to return to the Dell driver from Nov last year. It would be good to use the DirectX 9 features of this card when I work in Max. Does anyone know of a modded driver they have used for Max, which is reliable and stable etc.?

As for gaming, well I develop for games and look at games like Doom 3 for the graphics and environment research. The Dell driver is literally neutering the 8650 and I think it is a real shame that I cannot enjoy this game fully. I don't see why I should have to overclock my card to gain a marginal percentage point in performance. The support people at Dell ought to build a reliable driver which utilises the full capabilities of DirectX 9.

As individuals we don't have the power to convince Dell to do anything, but I have disuaded three people from purchasing Dell machines and remember the little numbers do add up. Word of mouth is an extremely powerful marketing force.

Thanks,

Updated graphics BIOS sometime ago.

Will try to do my own modding but I'm not a coder and really this should be the realm of Dell, they

pay coders to do this don't they?
