Do you have the most current version (v.3.20.23.0, A06, dated 8/20/2003) of the Truemobile 1400 driver? There have been reports of this device not coming out of standby correctly.
Dunno if this helps or not, but I have almost the exact same setup, except I have a Linksys WRT54G (not a 56?). And I use Hibernate (a lot), not Standby. When I come out of Hibernate, my TM1400 hooks up just fine and right away.
You should also be aware that when the operating system revives from Standby mode, it may not be performing a complete hardware redection. Typically driver and firmware updates fix this.
