CX4-120 moved to new location

Hello,

New user to EMC world I have recently moved an older cx4-120 from our production DC [replaced by VNX5300] to our local office computer room to use for QA environment with vSphere.  I was able to get everything reconnected, powered on and even changed the IP addresses of the SPA and SPB to our internal LAN ranges.  I am now able to connect to it using Unisphere Service Manager but what I see does not appear to let me do much.  I had to reset domain security [singe array only]when I changed the IP addresses and I think the device wanted to be reregistered with EMC.  I did the registration process this morning and got back an email from EMC saying the file will be processed shortly.  What is glaringly different from the VNX is I don't see a dashboard, storage, or hosts options like I do in the VNX version.

So I'm not sure how to see the disk that is attached in the DAE's or allow hosts [my 3 esx servers] to see the LUN's.  Is it a matter of me waiting for EMC to get back to me to turn something on?  The device is under maintenance but when I called the last time with a question about how to change the IP address I was told they would dispatch an engineer.  Once he contacted me he said it was a billable issue so I dug back in and got it done without them by connecting directly to the service port.  I did run some of the storage system reports and it shows all the information about the hosts that were previously connected and LUN's that existed before the move.  All that will need to be changed or reconfigured for the new environment as it is different, but I believe that a lot of it can be reused.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, once my post gets approved, that was what I was going to point out.  I swear

the usual list, just missing dashboard, storage, hosts.  It has registration which I don't think I see on the VNX.  I can run reports on the hardware seeing things like the connected status of the FC connections to the brocade, as well as disks that are in the DAE's.

Everything you describe (registration, reports, disks) suggests that you connecting to the CX4 via Unisphere Service Manager.  You even note that in your original post:

Connecting via Unisphere Service Manager?

===================================

Now apologies for asking but are you connecting via Unisphere Service Manager and expecting to see as you noted the usual: "dashboard, storage, and hosts"?  If by chance this is the case, instead of connecting via Unisphere Service Manager, can you instead bring up a browser and point to the mgmt IP of either SP A or B?  Either Navisphere or Unisphere Manager (not Service) will appear.  Again, I debated asking this, but in a way the feedback thus far has suggested this.

Separated from Unisphere v1.1/v1.2 Domain?

===================================

Final thought is that I'm thinking the CX4 was part of the Unisphere (v1.1 and 1.2) domain where the VNX was the domain master.  Of course, if they were never part of the same Unisphere domain then of course ignore.  Therefore, when you logged in you were viewing your CX4 using the same Unisphere v1.1 and 1.2 interface as served from the VNX but of course not getting the same underlying features; just the view.  You then had mentioned you reset the domain security on the CX4 which suggests that it is now removed from that domain and a member of its own Navisphere (if running FLARE 28 or 29)/Unisphere (if running FLARE 30) domain.  Therefore, when accessing it via the SP mgmt IP's you'll see either a subtle difference (between Unisphere v1.0 vs v1.1 or v1.2) or the original Navisphere Manager interface you may or may not be used to.  In fact, even now, you can download the Unisphere Client, install it on a Windows workstation, and point it to your mgmt IP's of the CX4 and get back the familiar interface.  Again, I'm assuming the CX4 was joined to the Unisphere Domain of the VNX.

If you can present a screenshot of what you are seeing, this may help clarify.

This does not surprise me at all.

Either way I appear to have figured it out.  I was using the wrong program "unisphere service manager" where what I should have been doing was using a browser and connecting to the IP of the SP.  After destroying the security and reconnecting it seems to have all the functions I could want.

Thanks for trying.

Anyways, you had figured it out and it is taking some time for the post to get approved so the obvious work-around would be to paste a screenshot what I had suggested.    Lol.
