CTP State failed - fibre channel still works?

So I got 2 DS4700M Switches and connected each other with a file-server.

The transfer of files is working and i cant see any errors when i am copying files, but it still bothers me:

What purpose does have the control processor card if the transfer of files is fine?

regards

Hello Ed,

after changing some options i suddenly saw, that the CTP cards are working now (no error message), sadly i dont know how or why.

A SAN refresh is not an option for me, because i am just a student for my professor who got these switches from your company as a present and the project is solely based on these two switches. (Just a little testlab for students).

Hi Jens,

I.

First of all the DS-4700M is already (EOSL) End of Support Life since 31 January 2013.

II.

These switches have only one CTP which is the main board.

If the CTP is reporting as faulty or an error, and the FC traffic is still working, that you might be lucky and there is a fault with the software or firmware on the CPT board, which does not affect the traffic.

Due to these switches EOSL, do you want me to open a Sales lead for you and have somebody from the sales team to contact you to talk about a SAN refresh?

We can take it offline then, just leave your email address and I contact you via a PM.

Regards,

Ed

Hi Jens,

Great that it is working now. Understanding the environment, you might make regular backups and switch reboot if something goes wrong then for these switches.

All the best,

Ed
