Okatz i have the same problem as u , i just installed the video card, wha thappen is it was a black screen... and then i couldnt even install the drivers. The solution is that i used external monitor and installed the driver. Shazam it work when i clicked fn f8... but the only problem is that everytime i restart the computer the screen reverts to black and didnt show bios screen at all, but then when it get to the xp welcome screen (not the xp loading screen) the screen shows up and i can use my lap top, i guess the bios does not recognized it somehow, however when i used external monitor somehow the bios screen shows up and the bios said that i have GeForce 4 go. ANYthing wrong with this, or anyone has this problem... Dell can u help us Please????
I have the same specs as u okatz with "ibm screen" which operator told me..
I finally got my LCD to come up based on your remarks! I flashed my bios down to A12 and installed the vanilla Dell 28.35 video drivers. After a reboot I was finally able to switch over to the LCD using fn-F8 (which I could not do for some reason before). The same exact thing happens with my system though: no post video and finally the LCD will pop on when Windows loads into the "Welcome" screen. I'm just happy I could get the thing to work at all...
I'm using A14 with the 29.60 Frankendriver downloaded from cybercookie.net. I have the same hardware listed, 15" IBM SXGA, GeForce 4 GO I8100, works fine. I've had no BIOS screen blackouts or other boot up faults. However, I do get the black screen on any driver higher than 29.60 (i.e.: 3x.xx and 4x.xx Detonators)
Ok, I give up - I have tried again following every step including attempting the FN+F8 toggle. The only thing I have not tried is attaching an external monitor since my notebook is my only home computer. My assumption is that it has to do with my Bios not reading the new video card since I get no screen whatsoever, not even the Windows splash or any of the startups. So if anyone out there has any ideas for me I would appreciate it. Otherwise, it looks like I'll be selling my new card to anyone interested and maybe trying the Radeon 9000? Thanks.

I think dell have mistaken my monitor for being ibm, dell i blame you for this... because when i open my monitor it said that its no brand at all ??, so wether my display is hitachi or ibm i dont know, but dell said ibm, if its ibm how come ill see this black screen upon my bios. Come on rance tell your affiliates to fix their system. Anyway it still work but the only problem is that i can not see the bios screen, but onces it reach the welcome screen it work. Anyways i dont really care with the bios, if i wanna use the bios may be i just going to install my old card, or get external monitor. For Galt if your monitor says hitachi when u opened it, that means there is a half solution for those peeps having the hitachi display. With only one weakness. no bios for laptop screen... I am still awaiting for solution to fix this problems, and for dell, is there anything wrong with the bios, may be this should be fix with the next bios upgrade...
I took out the LCD panel and verified that it was indeed an IBM. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what caused it to actually work, but I'm pretty sure that anybody who has a similar setup like ours will need to either use the Dell drivers or the 29.60 Frankndrivers (that is what I'm running now).
Okatz, I think you are pretty close to getting it to work, but you will definately need an external monitor in order to install the default drivers for XP. I still do not have video on startup, so I think there is still a flash-rom issue. I am currently running A12. My motherboard version is A01. I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. I hope you get it working cause I know it's frustrating. BTW, I tried an ATI 9000 earlier and had no luck with that card, which apparently is pretty much the consensus with everybody else running SXGA.
I am NOT happy! Without having an additional monitor at home if that is the only way to fix then I will probably return/sell the card. I am very disappointed with the entire thing as most people with our configs have no problems. Oh well, I am out of ideas and am looking for anyone with a suggestion without having the extra monitor.

I guess I'll have to give that a shot.... my only possibility left is trying to install the new video card's driver on the old card, then shutting down and switching.. although I highly doubt that will work. Anyone out there with a Radeon 9000 that would like to swap? Otherwise, let me know if interested in purchasing my new card which doesn't look like I can use.
Hey Rance or any other Dell representative, please set up a new Bios for the 8100 that will allow us to upgrade to the GeForce4 GO!! PLEEEAAASE!
