crocomouse,

"What am I doing wrong?" -- Probably nothing.  But sometimes the Wizard is not as wise as it should be.

First, make sure the WinXP firewall is disabled on any XP systems.  It will prohibit File and Printer Sharing.  If you are running any third party firewalls either disable them or configure them so that the IP address range of the LAN is in it's "Trusted Zone."

If that does not resolve the problem, go to HomeNetHelp and follow the tutorials for Networking Computers.  Abandon using the Wizard.

Thank for the info...  I will try to see if I can get it to work.

Yes, generally speaking you should disable any personal firewall (at least initially) ... that said, SP2's firewall is smart enough to allow file-sharing if you enable it elsewhere.

Other than that, make sure each computer has a different name.  Make sure netbios (over tcp/ip) is turned on.  Make sure file-sharing is enabled on both computers and that both computers are actually sharing resources.  Make sure simple file sharing is enabled if you're running XP Pro (it is by default).  Make sure both computers are in the same workgroup.

Not all of the above steps are necessary, depending on your version of windows.  But, to troubleshoot, it will not hurt to do all of them.

Good luck
