Avamar - few SQL DBs are not listed in "Windows SQL" plug-in for backup.

Hi All, Few SQL DBs of one of the SQL client are not listed in "Windows SQL" plug-in in Group of "Backup, Restore and Manage" window. Logged in to SQL server, "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" having "sysadmin" server role in Login Properties. Restarted Avamar backup agent services but no luck. Kindly help me. Avamar Server version :- 7.1.0.370 Avamar Client (FS and SQL) version :- 7.1.100.370 SQL SB version :- 2014 OS version :- Win 2012. Those two invisible databases are Availability Databases (Alwayson).

Hi

Please check the AutoClose Option on your databases.

We had problem's with this one. When i'ts active, the databases are not "online/viewable" for Avamar Backup.

Also, it's worst practice to run the db with autoclose enabled.

Worst Practice: Allowing AutoClose on SQL Server Databases | Practical SQL Server

SQL Server Best Practices: AutoClose Should be Off | Carpe Datum

I hope, this will help you :-) Auto Close must be False

Thanks for your reply.... yes, "Auto Close" option is already showing "False" on those two invisible databases.

I forget to mention on point :- Those two databases are Availability Databases (AlwaysOn).

No Problem.

I don't have any experience with Availability Databases.

There is some "AlwaysOn availability group requirements" in the EMC Avamar 7.2 for SQL Server User Guide.

Eventually, you can find your answer there.

if they are part of Always on Availability group. Then you can create a avsql.cmd file under var directory and add the following line,

--show_db_in_availability_group=true

restart the backup agent service and this should let you see the DB's.

Thanks All,

Actually, those two availability databases are visible under "Availability Group Listeners" name in Avamar Group. If you open "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio" - Expand "AlwaysOn High Availability" - check the name of Listeners.
