SQL 2014 migration to vxrail
I have been researching but not finding any good information. I have a 2014 SQL cluster has direct access to ISCSI storage using MPIO not microsofts iscsi initiators. we just put in a new vxrail so goal is to migrate it over to the vsan but is there any good way to do this other than build new backup restore DBs in now SQL servers??

Hello, I'm trying to understand how you have direct access to the iSCSI storage if not using MS iSCSI initiator. Does that mean the ESXi host is doing the iSCSI connection, and you are presenting the disks to the VM as RDMs?
If so, then all you really need to do is convert the physical raw RDMs to VMDKs first on the existing ESXi node. Check with VMware there are procedures for that.
Then you should be able to migrate them to VxRail.

Its not being presented in or from VMware so no RDM disks The database drive does not show up in VM properties. The VM has a connection to iscsi SAN so i am assuming the disk is being presented from the old Dell SAN directly to the VM since it has all the iscsi connections on the VM to SAN. More I think about it and type it would sounds like a backup and restore of the DBs after a rebuild of the SQL cluster...

Ok then it sounds like you must be using MS iSCSI initiators? unless you are using one of those QLogic/Emulex TOE HW cards and somehow allowing the VMs to use it, which would seem highly unlikely.
Yeh I think backup and restore may be the safest option.
You could actually change it so that the disks are connected via iSCSI by ESXi and provided as RDMs to the VMs, and then convert to VMDK afterwards. Would need to be careful of course.

I think im going to present new disks from VMware and use the below link to migrate to those disks then vmotion over to new vcenter..
