XPS 13 9350 compatibilty to install new SSD

EDIT: accidentally made a double post but i don't see any option to delete this post, sorry...

Hello,

I have a XPS 13 9350 on which i am running out of hard disk space (it came with a 128GB SSD). I am considering to buy the SSD below to replace the current SSD.

Can someone tell me if there are any compatibility issues i should be aware of? Or is it really as simple as backing up my files, installing the new HD and running a new windows installation?

Thanks!

David

I got the Samsung 960 EVO 500Gb, specifically model MZ-V6E500BW. I bought it on Amazon UK for £99 during a sale, here's the link: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M20VBU7/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item.

Using it on a 9350 with BIOS 1.9.0 where it works perfectly and is overall somewhat faster than the 256Gb factory-installed drive I replaced. As you probably know you won't be able to take advantage of the full speed of the Samsung 960 range on the 9350, but it's plenty fast for me.

Not sure what the storage limitation on this model is. I read that people were having problems with the 970 range of Samsung drives, but the 500Gb 960 EVO was reported to work fine which I can confirm.

While the system does support NVMe drives, I'd stick with Samsung.  Intel's NVMe drives have shown many more compatibility issues than Samsung's have.

Thanks for your help!

Have you heard of any compatibilty issues with the Samsung 970 EVO? That one came out top on a Dutch website that just did a review on SSD drives :-)

Thanks again!

I've read quite a few times that the 970 doesn't work in the XPS 13 9350 - specifically it's not recognised as a bootable device so can't be used. At least that's the case with the 1.9.0 BIOS.

I ended up getting the 960 as a result, which I can confirm works perfectly.

It's been some months since you posted originally, so perhaps you've already got a drive?

Hi Nitsson, I wanted to ask you about your experience in upgrade. Can you please mention the exact model of samsung ssd you used? Its capacity as well. Is there any limit of supported storage capacity on 9350? I once asked a support guy and he mentioned i could only upgrade to 256 GB ssd. I have a 9350 SE with 8 GB ram and 128 gb ssd
