You replied to an older thread with a different monitor model, so started a new thread.

It is great that the S2817Q works on the non-tested/non-validated MacBook Pro. For other Apple users who may be looking =

Which version of TB (Thunderbolt) is on your MacBook Pro?

What specific cables are you using?

I also have it working with a new Mac mini 2018 running Mojave 10.14.1. Everything seems to work fine when I connect it via HDMI using the cable that came with the monitor, both before and after turning on HDMI 2.0 support. It doesn't like setting the Response Time to "Fast", though, as there are visible halos around text when scrolling.

Using Thunderbolt with a cable I purchased at Frys (PPA is the manufacturer), however, I get some weird magenta lines across the screen whenever the display sleeps. Last night it apparently filled the screen with them and stayed on all night. The cable says it supports everything I think it is supposed to (copied from Frys website below):

  • Able to mirror MacBook display and output video content to DisplayPort displays
  • Supports data rates of 5.4 Gpbs (HBR2), 2.7 Gbps (HBR), 1.62 Gbps (RBR)
  • Supports Type-C™ MacBook, Chromebook, and other Type-C™ devices
  • Supports DisplayPort resolution up to 3840 x 2160 Reversible USB 3.1 Type-C™ (plug in both ways)
  • Type-C™ to DisplayPort monitor or projector
  • Supports content protection of HDCP
Detailed Description
(Manufacturer # 4234 )
Features
  • Supports DisplayPort 1.2 Altmode
  • Supports resolutions up to 4Kx2K
  • No external power required
  • Supports bus-powered
  • Plug and Play

Any thoughts?

After hooking up my Dell 28" S2817Q monitor to my 2017 Macbook Pro I get a still photo that is not the same one on my MacBook Pro. I do get a bar across the top with all the icons and options like "edit', "view" "Window" etc. And when I click on system preferences and then "display" I get small windows on both the macbook and the monitor but they are not the same. So there is something happening between my MacBook Pro and the monitor. It is like it is trying to connect but cannot.
