Inspiron 600m - How do I reset the monitor to factory setting?

Let me apologize for prematurely alerting you. But I am having the same problem with my new 600m. The only difference is that I did not change the operating system. Like you, I'm have changed the resolution to 1280x1024, but all icons, images and some fonts in certain programs are way to fuzzy.

I will be looking around for answers. If I found something, I will drop you a message on the board.

You don't have to install a monitor driver, and having it display as "default monitor" is perfectly normal.

In the past year or so, Dell has been setting the DPI on their computers to "large fonts" when they ship them out, so try setting your display to the maximum (native) resolution, and changing the DPI in Display Properties - Settings tab - Advanced button.

Post back if this doesn't solve your problem.

No LCD is going to look good at a resolution unless it is the native resolution. That is just the nature of LCDs.

I just got my new 600m.  It's sitting side by side with my 8100.  Both are 1400 x 1050 native resolution.  Both have same settings (large dpi, smoothing via natural, etc.).  Yet on the 600m, the big words like Community Forum are very fuzzy (and my sig too).  On the 8100 they are fine.  So, I changed to normal dpi, and it's fine, but too small type.  Now I'm playing with the right number to get it bigger but not fuzzy.

I've resolved my problem satisfactorily, sort of.  I left the large dpi setting.  I went and tried the suggested fixes at the top of this forum. 

Dell is configuring our newer systems with high resolution LCDs to use font scaling within Internet Explorer to increase the size of fonts. This results in fonts that are easier on the eyes to read, but some customers prefer the less blurry, smaller fonts. Click here to view a Microsoft document that explains how to enable this. If you wish to disable this feature, simply reverse the steps under "Activate Scaling" within the MS document: Set your DPI to 96 and change the UseHR registery key value to 0 instead of 1.

If you still encounter a problem with the fonts on certain web sites, open Internet Explorer. Click Tools, click Internet Options, then click the Accessibility button. Remove the check next to "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages".

If you experience jagged images when viewing large images within Internet Explorer, IE's "Automatic Image Resizing" is probably enabled. To disable this, open Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options, then click the Advanced tab. Remove the check next to "Enable automatic image resizing" under the "Multimedia" heading.

I found that the last fix didn't do anything.  I didn't want to do the 2nd one, so I went into the registry (first fix) and changed the value to 0.  At large dpi, the word Dell at the top is now clear, Community Forum is a little fuzzy.

My problems were ONLY on Dell's web pages, and specific to certain sections.

Ok. Thanks, I'll try those fixes.  I also read them, but since my problem was with more than Explorer, I decided not to do it.

You'd think that Dell has a download that would change everything at once!  I'm sure they did when they installed the system!

I was having the same troubles. When I compared the display setting on my new 600m, I fighured that the trouble was the Internet Explorer. Yesterday I downloaded the Netscape 7.1. Everything is working fine. I can change the resolution and the clarity of my fonts, images are in tact. I am not sure if you have a perference, but give it a shot.

All set now.  Changed from Large Fonts to Normal Fonts on the Display screen (not the dpi setting) and Outlook and menu bars look great.

Top of this forum - post re: fuzzy in Internet Explorer.  It's given in there.  I set DPI to 125%, and changed the value.

 

That "Rick" guy may have said this but for others who still have a blurry screen and fonts after reinstall of xp try this.        Right click desktop, then properties, then appearance tab, then effects, 2nd one down change from clear type to standard.
