Hi ALesterB,

Thanks for posting.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.

Have you tried performing a systems diagnostics yet?  Please run Dell SupportAssist, making a note of any error messages encountered and post back.

If there are no error messages then that could indicate either a software or driver issue.

Here is information from the Dell knowledge base you may find helpful:

Dell BIOS Updates

What is BIOS and How to Update the BIOS on Your Dell System

If you still require assistance and the system is under warranty, you may contact me privately. Be sure to include your personal information (name, address, telephone, email) and your computer's service tag number in your message. Thanks.

If there is no warranty, then you could contact our Out of Warranty team to get a quote for a paid service request.

If you are trying to do the update via the Dell Support Assist, do not use this method.  Download the update direct from Dell downloads and manually apply the update.

Here is the link to the download:

You can also find the installed version of BIOS by right-clicking the Start button and typing in msinfo32.exe and pressing Enter.

You should find the BIOS version number listed on the System Summary page when msinfo32 opens.

I have a Inspiron 3670 also and had BIOS update 1.5.21 show up as "failed" for the first few tries using the supportassist and downloading it myself. Never had any error codes or error messages(I did check the bitlocker service was stopped after the first couple failed)

One time around the 10th try mark, without showing the pop-up for do you want to proceed with the install and restart (I had done this update on about 3 inspirons before this one), the 3670 computer restarted without warning, and came up with the firmware loading screen, loaded for awhile then booted up. I checked the BIOS version and it is 1.5.21 now but supportassist still wants to install the BIOS update for 1.5.21.

Just wanted to pass on my experience to anyone else having this issue and ask if there is anything more I should be checking to make sure I got all of that BIOS update, since it was unusually installed?

If that last BIOS update wasn't correctly installed and/or was incomplete, you'd be staring at a rather expensive paperweight right now.  It boots and works...that's all you need to know...

And get rid of SupportAssist!  My two cents...

I am trying to install the bios update 1.3.4 to 1.5.21. It has been "installing" under supportassist for about two hours. the dell firmware update utility shows an update button. How long does this take? I think it's hanging but I'm reluctant to do anything with the Do Not Interrupt warnings. I guess I can let it run overnight.

I too tried to download the latest BIOS driver (1.5.21) from the Drivers and Downloads page, and got the "failed" message. I checked my installed version, and found this version: 2.10.0  3/25/19. It looks like version 1.5.21  3/15/19 from the downloads page is older, and that may be why it failed to install? When I tried to install version 1.5.21, I got a quick message "install failed, backward version not supported" or something similar. Message comes up fast and disappears quickly. Not sure how to get the 2.10.0 version or if that's the current correct version, maybe contact Dell Support?
