Aurora R7, disconnecting from games
Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone can help me with this issue I am having.
I have:
Alienware Aurora R7
i7-8700 @ 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz, 6 core(s), NVIDIA 1080, 16gb RAM
I have been recently experiencing my computer freezing or hanging. In a game like Overwatch or PUBG it just freezes for about 2 seconds and then continues. However, in games like (football game) pro clubs and Battlefield V, it hangs and then disconnects me from the game, which is super frustrating! In addition, I have just finished my final year at university and one day when I was doing an assignment, it was freezing and late into the night it just turned itself off. This was just using Microsoft Word.
I have had a look around the forums but there I can't figure it out. At first I thought it was EA but then with the other games and during writing an assignment it surely can't be that. I thought it was probably the internet as I was wireless, so I hardwired my computer and that has made no difference what so ever.
This has lead me to think that the computer must be overheating? It does seem to be more problematic on days which it is hotter and some of my friends have suggested replacing the thermal paste (which I intend on doing soon).
If it's any help, I have ran Alienware's AlienAdrenaline in the Command Centre (image below) and it looks like there is a massive dip in output when the computer has froze, although the first spike didn't result in a disconnection, the second one did, right at the end of the recording. In this instance it looks like the CPU usage and GPU usages have both plummeted. (Recorded playing BFV)
Anyone experience something similar or know what could be causing it?

1. Are you under Dell Extended warranty?
If you can’t run MS Word without the Aurora-R7 freezing and turning itself off, you have bigger problems.
2. Does machine run the (long 8-hour) ePSA test (outside of Windows) properly?
3. Have you Disabled all CPU and GPU Over-Clocks?

If you are using wireless connection there is your problem.
If this is wired connection then it could be driver related.
U-NII and TDWR can cause wifi in 5ghz band to shut off.
Part 15 subpart E. FCC rules. Translated into plain english if your wifi thinks its interfering with radar it shuts off and tries another channel. This can take a minute or more. Living in an area with lots and lots of 5ghz wifi routers can also cause this because the access points think the other guy is RADAR. They require all U-NII devices to implement software security to ensure that the devices operate as authorized and cannot be modified.
U-NII is an FCC regulatory domain for 5- GHz wireless devices. U-NII power limits are defined by the United States CFR Title 47 (Telecommunication), Part 15 - Radio Frequency Devices, Subpart E - Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure Devices, Paragraph 15.407 - General technical requirements.
They also recently added rules for WIFI Router Firmware
FCC INTRODUCES RULES BANNING WIFI ROUTER FIRMWARE MODIFICATION. This was done because hackers wanted to disable the Radar interference rule in wifi router and increase transmitter power and other naughty things.

Hello Speedstep,
Thanks for the reply and information. Initially I thought it could be a wireless problem. Virgin upgraded my package and send me the new super hub and I bought an ethernet cable so I have now had a new router and I am hardwired. Despite this, I am still having the problem.

Hello Tesla,
1. I am not under Dell Extended warranty.
I can run word fine without any problems. I think the issue was more than I had been working on an assignment all day and into the early hours of the night and potentially it was too hot (this was only one occasion).
2. I'm familiar with what that is but I'll look into it and see if I can try and run the test.
3. As far as I am aware there is no over-clocking on my PC but I could be wrong.

your photos show huge CPU load.
then the CPU shuts down and with that GPU too, as CPU stops driving the GPU.
all you proved there is sure it shut down and was overloaded , only WHY matters.
why does my PC self shut down, (99% are overheated, 1% are PSU bad, or PSU overloaded by defective device loads)

and with all NIC disabled.
what does this great program show from MS< (all tasks) AUTORUNS64, (tab logon)
PCs are like sponges, if you drag it down the road on rope, it gets dirty, so replace the sponge often? or"?
or learn to cheery pack all the useless JUNK out of the pages here.

this is great way to end CPU overload, (task load) for sure in RUN boxes.

first off its not the game, nor NIC.
what you did not do is classis, on most posts here.
1: what is your room temp, (ambient) are you or better R7 in a hot room ,garage, attic or 95F+ degrees space;.?
that was first things first question after all I cant see you or it and all the clogged vents and fans packed in lint.
run this to learn that:
hwINFO32.exe portable free , run that, and see if it overheats running (free versions) Passmark and Furmark.
if it overheats, end of the story, right? (even a new post , why my PC overheats and is COMMON)
where are your TASK Manager photos?. (CPU and Performance tabs) use w10 to tell you if it is overloading CPU or ram, ( you do know that bad apps with memory leaks eat up ram, right?)
use the Task manager that everyone understands,. ok>?
the PS shuts down can I guess fans too? If yes, that is the Intel Inside magic (most time) doing that at 90c.
the data sheet on your processor clearly states that, and the slow down before. in fact.
your post can be revised to this.
mY PC self shuts down why. (this is the key word here SELF)
and even using WORD, even with all networking devices disabled I bet. (in device manager you can do that )
learn to use benchmark programs to load up the PC and see if it overheats, first..
all top gamers know this ,and what to do. learn how or ask.
endless web sites cover all these tests, its not like just invented. ok?

and from only the Authoritive makers web site never others, (full of malware)
the one In the middle here, all PCs need to have this for sure all with 95watt CPU and 300watt GPU (worst case near) The PC is sick for sure, only testing finds TRUE case, wana test? or guess?
