R430: mixing memory size
Hello,
I have a couple of R430 with 8x8GB RDIMM, Perfomance Optimezed.
I would like to add 4x16GB RDIMM, but the owner's manual didn't fully answer to my question.
In my understanding, I should be able to do it by inserting 16GB modules in A1,A2,A3,A4, then filling the remaining slots with 8GB modules.
Is that correct?
Thank you

Hello
The memory guidelines should be covered in the system manual. There is no supported configuration to populate the memory you have. Slots 1-4 on the A and B lanes should be populated with identical memory. If you are mixing memory then higher rank should be populated first. If the memory is the same rank then larger memory should be populated first.
The system supports flexible memory, so there are unsupported configurations that will work. The population that you are planning to do may work. If the 8GB and 16GB modules are the same rank then a better population would be 8GB modules in slots 1-4 on both lanes and 16GB modules in 5-8 on the A lane.
Thanks

My question is similar, however the manual says the larger capacity modules should go first.
I would like to populate A1-A4 and B1-B4 with 8GB modules then add 16GB modules to A5-A8.
The manual shows A1, A2, A7, A8 as having black tabs, wouldn't they be the 16GB modules?
Which is correct?
Thank you

Thank you, however, you didn't answer my question.
You said we could put 8 8GB modules and 4 16GB modules in this system?

Hello
The diagram on page 77 of the R430 manual appears to be incorrect. Slots 1-4 on both lanes should be white tabs. I'll submit to have it corrected.
Thanks
