You'll want to go into My Bluetooth Places... click on the "bluetooth tasks" to search for devices... it should find a Microsoft mouse... double-click the icon... Windows should load the drivers and show the device connected. I'm telling you this from memory so hopefully it will be accurate.

Bluetooth mouse works like a champ now that I downloaded the new driver.  I found a really cool use for it to.....    I gave a powerpoint presentation using my D800 this morning, and I was standing about 20 feet away from the laptop holding the MS Bluetooth wireless mouse and I was using the scroll wheel to advance forward and go back through my presentation.  It was awesome.

Sorry for the off topic post.
Now that BT seems to be working I want to know if I can add the Dell BlueTootht to my D800.

Is this something I can order and install?

Thank you, and, BTW, should I assume that the HID includes the Microsoft Bluetooth Optical Desktop, which? I think, is just the mouse and keyboard.

CPoly,

I have the Bluetooth office and that is where I got the mouse.
I will try the keyboard tonight when I get home.

Soxc,

Here's a post that gives you all the information you will need to upgrade your D800 to include Bluetooth:

I am downloading the XP SP1a now manually since the Windows Update service did not seem to fix it. I will re-post after I test that,

According the Microsoft, the ONLY difference between XP SP1 and XP SP1a is that SP1a does not contain the Microsoft VM (the Java environment that the courts originally forced Microsoft to distribute, but have now decided it no longer has to).

SOLVED!

There is another thread on this issue here in the forums where I posted the link to the new driver here on Dell's site.

The new driver fixed the issues and I am now  using the M$ Bluetooth mouse with my D800.   I also have the keyboard, but I have not had a chance to test it yet.

To anyone successfully using the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse with their D800 - how does it work?  How do you switch from using the built-in pointer to the external bluetooth mouse?

I envision using the laptop with the touchpad usually.  But, say I want to switch to the external bluetooth mouse.  Do I simply pull it out of my bag and switch it on (I assume that the mouse has some kind of a power switch...)?  And what about when I want to put it away and switch back to the touchpad?

bsd107,

Once the driver is setup, it just "knows" that the mouse is in range.  You can use the wireless mouse, the touchpad, and the pointing stick all at the same time.    I am typing this response on the Microsoft Bluetooth Keyboard, and I am using my  bluetooth mouse as well.   They both work great with the D800 (now that Dell has the new driver).

To initiate the mouse after it goes to sleep, you just click a mouse button.  The wireless mouse feels really ergonomic, and is slick looking, but it does not slide as well as some of my other mice.

All of the cool little buttons on the wireless keyboard are neat too.

Hope that helps.

JLover,

Thanks for the feedback.  Does the mouse have a power switch on it?  So that it can be placed in a bag and not worry about it "waking up" and draining the battery?

That is a good question.  No, the Microsoft (M$) Bluetooth mouse does not have a power switch for storage.  I wish it did. It goes to sleep pretty quickly, and it wakes up pretty quickly.  It uses two AA batteries, so it will probably last quite a while.   Every time I go into my laptop bag for the M$ BT mouse, it is on.  You can see the red glow in the bag ;(.

The best overall mouse that I have for my D800 is the Belkin F8E882-OPT that I got at a local staples.  It is wired and not obviously not bluetooth, but it is about 30% smaller than a standard mouse, slides great and is great for travel.
It is SUPER light and slides better than all of my other mice.   If you have really big hands, then forget it.  But I wear large gloves and it works well for me.   That is the mouse I usually use when I am away from my desk.

For me, the M$ BT mouse is probably best suited for desktop and presentation use.  And like I said before, it is awesome for powerpoint presentations because you can use your leg to move the pointer, and the mouse wheel lets you move through your powerpoint slides easily.   The hard plastic slider feet on the M$ BT mouse are bigger than other mice, and as you slow down your movement from point to point, it is grabby. Maybe when the M$ mouse breaks-in for me a little bit it will slide easier.   I know this sounds like I am nit-picking... but at this resolution that I am at with the D800, it makes a difference when you are clicking on complex menus.

Hope that helps.

JLover,

Thanks for the info.  The lack of a power switch is a killer issue for me.  I would only use the mouse when on the road - I don't want it running all of the time while in the bag...

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and its really no issue.  I travel all the time.  I just flip one of the batteries around when i put it in my bag.  When I need it I flip it back and it connects everytime.    Just my thoughts.  Great mouse and great combo.  Its funny watching my client amazment when i pull the mouse out.
