Notification from Dell Update: The system has been updated

New Dell XPS 15 running Windows 10.  I've had this computer for 4 days and I get a notification from Dell Update that the system has been updated every time I restart the system.  When I go into Dell Update, it indicates that the last update was 3 days ago.

1.  Is it normal that I get this notification upon every system restart?  Does it actually mean that the system is up-to-date?

2.  While Dell Update software does show what updates have been done to the system and the version number, it doesn't get any more info, e.g. data/time that update was applied, or summary notes of the update.

I posted a "me too" message on December 21st. I was asked in a string of private messages from Dell for my Service Tag, which I supplied, and then for further personal information, some of which they should already have known, and some which I wasn't prepared to share with Dell because they don't "need to know".

They then 'archived' my "support request" - I hadn't asked for any support, just added my voice to the growing crowd.

Just to confirm that I am also on Windows 10 Version 1909.

I've also noticed that this community board allows us to upload PNG images, and then abysmally fails to display them!

Not holding my breath while waiting for a fix to "The system has been updated". Perhaps the message is supposed to mean "The system is up-to-date" . Who knows?

Same issue here on a XPS 9560

Same issue here as original post. Started with latest update roughly 4 weeks ago. Dell XPS 9575 15 2-in-1 Windows ver 1903, still under warranty. You're generic response does not provide a solution, it's a work around. Many customers are reporting the same issue regardless of windows version, model type or warranty. This is clearly a Dell Update issue. Can you please do something about it.

Same here XPS 8930 that is a few years old, recent W 10 1909 update. This constant notification started after recent support assist/dell update updates. Prior to that the 2 were not agreeing with each other and would not DL updates. That was fixed with the update but now every start up I get this "your system has been updated" notice when it has not. I do have a current warranty but this sounds like something y'all need to fix without us spending time on it.

Dell's reply that we should disable notifications reminds me of my former car mechanic.  When I reported a funny noise from the engine, he advised me to wear earmuffs.

I wasted another couple hours yesterday doing things Dell has recommended through private messages (My laptop is under warranty). Again, no joy.

Among other things, I was given a link to a previous version of Dell Update. It wouldn't install after two tries so I gave up, re-installed the buggy current version, and disabled the notifications. Not a solution, I understand.

My last private message suggested that they were waiting to hear from their "internal team" and would get back to me as soon as they did. I guess that means the Dell people writing the private messages to us are not part of the "internal team".  Surprise!

@TamraSIt seems like they were trying to fix the incompatibilities between Dell Update and SupportAssist, as you noted, and ended up breaking Dell Update. By the way, I'm seeing that these two apps are still not agreeing. Yesterday SupportAssist kicked off and said there were no updates. I ran Dell Update immediately and there were two, which I downloaded and installed.

Sorry to rant. I'm done fiddling with this now and will wait to see if a fix is offered anytime soon.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I've had success uninstalling DCU 3.1 and reinstalling DCU 3.0 and ignoring any further updates to the program. Dell either can't or won't fix this problem with DCU.

While this isn't a solution, DCU isn't some system critical program that you need to have installed all the time. You can install it, check for updates, install those updates, and then uninstall DCU for a month or so when you want to check again.

It doesn't need to be running at every startup and your laptop is going to run fine without it getting the absolute latest driver updates the minute those updates are released.

Same goes with SupportAssist and Dell Digital Delivery. You don't need these programs running every minute of your day. Uninstall them and redownload the latest versions from Dell's website if/when the time comes that you ever need to use either software. Those programs are the first things to get uninstalled when I setup a laptop for a new user.

Strangely enough this issue fixed itself today. I've booted up twice now and the notification has not appeared. I have not done anything to try and resolve the issue aside from checking for updates using Dell Update v3.1 daily for the past week and every time I've checked the app states "System is up-to-date". Go figure.

01/08/2020 Update: Symptom returned a couple days later. The notification doesn't pop up every time I boot up but most times. So still not resolved.

I am still having the same problem.  This has been going on for months.  Does; this signal the end of Dell's great service policies?

I'm having the same problem with the update notification on two separate Dell systems, a laptop and a desktop.  Both systems started behaving badly just recently. This is clearly a software problem Dell should fix.

Run it once, make sure you're fully up to date on drivers and the BIOS, and then uninstall it. Seeing as Dell won't fix the program, this is the way to solve the problem.

There's no reason to have this program running all the time especially if it's creating other issues such as this endless notification. Dell is not releasing new driver updates every three days, and even if they were, you don't always need to be on the Day 1, instant notification release cycle for these updates.

It's often beneficial to purposely wait a few weeks or longer to make sure these driver updates aren't pulled for some critical compatibility issue that pops up.

I reinstall and run the program about once every 3 months. The added advantage to not having this program installed is that it's one less thing running at startup, taking up system resources.

@Dell-Alan D  Thank you for your support.  I went through the process of installing version 3.0 of Dell Command|Update today.  Bottom line:  3.0 installed successfully and I'm no longer receiving errant "Updated" messages.

Here are the details of what I did:

Verified that I'm currently running DCU v3.1
Re-enabled notifications for Dell update (previously disabled)
Restarted computer
Received the errant notification; system has not fixed itself as reported by another user
Uninstalled Dell Update and Dell Update for Windows 10
Downloaded DCU v3.0
Installed DCU v3.0
Received System has been updated notification before completing installation and dismissed it
Clicked "Finish" on install
Restarted computer
Did not receive the "Updated" notification
Ran DCU
Allowed to periodically check for updates
Checked for updates
System up-to-date

There is a problem with the notification in DCU 3.1.  DCU 3.0 doesn't have the problem.

If Dell chooses to "automagically" update DCU to 3.1 without fixing it, I'll simply uninstall it and leave it uninstalled, as recommended by @decker12

In reply to Dell - Alan D's post of 12/31/19, as of today's most recent login (12/31/19 @ 3:30 EST), I am still getting the "The system as been updated" notification.

For me, this started with the most recent update from the DCU.

Seems to me this should already be a priority with Dell "engineering".

Happy New Year.
