A 240W charger is definitely fine, in fact with an XPS 13 9370 you could have saved some money by getting the 180W version, since 240W is only necessary when attaching to systems that themselves require 130W. Anyway, go into your BIOS Setup and go to the Battery Information page. Underneath the battery graphic, the system will show the amount of wattage it detects from the attached power source. It may never show above 45W for a system that will only draw that, but see what it shows when your TB16 is connected. If it’s lower than that, then it’s either a defective dock or defective AC adapter attached to the dock. If you have another TB16 handy to try swapping those components individually, that might be a good data point, but if not, then either way you’ll probably need to exchange the dock, so technically it doesn’t really matter which component is at fault.

It is the 9570, not the 9370, so I think I do need the 240W if I am correct.

In the BIOS it says "AC Adapter = Unknown" when I have the TB16 plugged in. Then if I plug in the actual power adapter it says "AC Adapter = 130W."   I don't have another TB16 to try.

I guess I should just return it unless someone else has an idea.

Just giving any googlers a followup. Solved.

It was a defective dock. I replaced the dock and all the issues went away.

Without the laptop AC adapter just via de Dock.

Thanks

You need the 240W version. See the table on this FAQ page.  The 9560 and 9570 both use 130W power supplies, so the information there for the 9560 would apply to the 9570.  (Strangely, the XPS 15 9575 also uses a 130W power supply, albeit with a USB-C connector rather than the barrel style connector, and yet the FAQ table claims that it can be charged by a 180W TB16.  I'm guessing that's an error in the table, because every other system on that list that requires 130W says that it requires the 240W TB16.)

Thank you, also in the FAQ there is no mention of the 9570. Customer services suggest me the 180w but i knew something was not right because of the 9560 need 240w. I will make sure i got the 240w tomorrow! thanks again.

Having the same charging issues on XPS 9570 and 240W TB16. In Dell Diagnostics, it only shows 60W. BIOS, Thunderbolt 3, and all related drivers have been updated several times since purchase and are the most recently available as of this post. Due to various troubleshooting, I have exceeded return window on TB16, which I bought from a third party. Any recourse through Dell for the apparently defective dock and/or power adapter? Thank you.Diagnostics.jpg
