For the many folks experiencing A940 problems (regardless of type of paper stock, number of pages loaded, barometric pressures, alignment of the stars or phases of the moon, etc.), I've gone through 4 printers, each of which was defective. I returned them all. Have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply, let alone a refund. I thought I had set a record until the gentleman at the UPS store informed me that another customer went through six!
If nothing else, be comforted that you are neither alone nor imagining things. Additional complaints are posted in other threads, e.g. the "Let's Hear It..." series.
As for me, I bought yet another printer - one of the new HP models. It actually works which means that I can actually work, too. I love it and am breathing a very huge (and until I get my refund, a very expensive) sigh of relief.
When you say that the paper feeds at a "slight angle" what you ment to say was the printer turned the paper about 45 degrees and creases it and then doesnt even take the paper in far enough to print because it is so sideways right? if not then mine is really messed up cause thats all it ever does. with 1 sheet or with 100. nothing more comes of it. The paper creases itself then doesnt print anything and tells me to fix the paper jam, i mean its easy to pull the paper out but ive tryed printing about 15 times and nothing has come of it other than 15 sheets of folded paper. Right now im using the HammerMill Copy Plus 84 and im about to start using the printer as a doorstop because it has no other practical application other than perhaps the fun of bashing it into a million pieces. Heck i would be able to print better on the million pieces than it prints now. I have now also tried putting in Kodak High Gloss Photo-Paper than CAME WITH THE PRINTER but i guess thats not a thick enough type of paper either. Im thinking they want us to use Sheets of Steel next time we want to print. If you see any Steel for cheap contact my cause i want to be able to print with my printer atleast once.
We just recieved our A940 printer, it worked fine the first day but the all of a sudden it screwed up. I put the paper in and it starts fine, but then all of a sudden it starts going in on an angle. Very Frustrated! Can someone help me?
Yes; I've had all sorts of problems, and over the past 10 days the problem with paper feeding through at an angle has become more and more exagerated on the A940 to point where it now feeds in at such an angle that it bunches and I get paper jams; whether I use a little or a lot of paper makes no difference either. My color cartridge only dispenses one ink color, now the paper won't feed through with paper jamming, no torn paper thankfully. I thought my problem was just the cartridge but the printer starting laying bands of blue or yellow ink over print when ever it has a mind to, and then will not print where I want it. The blue and yellow don't usually even dispense during printing. I purchased a lemon, returning it to be serviced within my thirty days to return without s/h costs and returning the cartridge for replacement. I've only had it 7 days and need a service call. It is never normal for paper to feed in at an angle, that is a manufacturing defect. Consumers can't be expected to pay $129- to $149- for a printer copier that feeds the paper in at an angle so that every thing comes out angled on the paper. Only thing you can do is raise cain until you get a service order number to send it in for repair. You purchased a product in good faith that you could return it for repair or replacement if you were disatisfied or it was damaged or defective. It is very unusual for a printer to act this way and to have this many problems with the first few months of use or in my case within the first 7 days of use. It took me 6 days of determined persistence but I have a service order number and authorizations to return the A940 and color cartridge for replacement. Go to customer service and tell them what tech support said and insist on a response from a supervisor if you've requested a service order and return authorization and have not gotten one yet. Keep copies of every attempt you make and their responses.
I have had my A940 for a week now. It looks as if the paper is crooked, but all of the printing is straight. I am using plain 20lb stock paper from Office-Max..I live in a humid part of the country..Just plain luck..you decide
Yes; I suppose that is exactly what I meant by feeds in at an angle then bunches up and jams without printing anything, but the first few days the anle was only slight getting worse each time I tried to print until yesterday I couldn't print anything. I've only been using the printer for maybe 7 days since ordering it on the 14th. I have also used three weights and types of paper verythin note book paper, a light copy caper and a heavier grade copy paper in addition to the photo paper. One of the rare occassions it dispensed anyblue was on a phooto of the artwork I creted but instead of dispensing the blue ink where it was supposed to be, it laid down one jagged short band of blue on one edge, and printed the rest in a dull red and dull tannish orange on white. Not exactly the creation in My Pictures but I have a unique signature band to authenticate that it is my design that I did not want. The A940 printer is a lemon apparently.BC
The paper seems to feed in crooked. I tried printing out address labels, and it was a dreadful experience. I wasted about 3 pages for every page that came out successful.
We called to get a replacement, and the replacement has the same problem. When I mentioned to the tech on the phone that it seemed to be a design error, he basically blew me off, and suggested that I could get another replacement.
I really am a big fan of Dell products and services, and I wish this had worked out better...but at this point, I'm wondering what my options will be...as it appears that I'll be trying to make a return after the 30 day limit.
Dell finally replaced my lemon and the only problem I am having with the new A940 occured after I fed photo paper into it, afterwards the inkjet paper fed through at an angle. I had to run align twice but it did re-align itself but my left feed guide is not as loose as the one on the defective A940. I am reluctant to feed the heavier photo paper and card stock paper through my new A940 after my recent attempt. Have a nice day and Best of Luck to you.
Having played around with this paper mis-feed a little on my own printer, I have found a counter-intuitive "solution" to the skew paper exit problem. I put solution in quotes because it is not 100% effective but seems to provide significant improvement for plain paper in all weights (20lb, 24lb, etc.) This also does not address the kicking of the paper to the right as it enters the paper feed rollers. The solution is to move the left edge guide all the way to the left. Completely remove the edge guide if you want but then you may invalidate any warranty. You still need to put the paper in against the right edge guide for proper lateral alignment, but this seems to provide significantly better performance. Also, if you move the left edge guide tighter in to the paper to try and eliminate the paper pick movement when it first begins to feed, this actually seems to exaggerate paper feed problems. So for what it's worth. It cost nothing in time or $ to try so see how it works for you.
I've had my A940 for 2 months and it seemed to work fine and now it wouldn't even feed paper to the print cartridges. The paper feeds about 2 inches and then stops. If I apply a little downward pressure it will grab the paper and print it out but, it is skewed. Has anyone experienced the paper not feeding in far enough for the "gripper" to grab it?
I am having the same problem when it feeds the paper. Most times it wouldn't even feed the paper. Is there a phone number to talk to a "real person". How did you contact someone for a replacement?
In response to your request for information from customers who are experiencing paper jams with the A940, I am using HP bright white inkjet 24 lb. paper. I'm sure you are working hard to figure out what to do about this problem. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to post our problems.
i found a solution to the misfeed problems, too. after problems with the third replacement printer sent by dell and too many hours on hold & too many conversations, i sent a sample of the printing problems to dell. they were very prompt and most courteous in arranging a return for full refund even post-30 day return period. the new hp5150 is awesome - half the size and price and not one problem with it.
