How many complaints about the same problem, clearly stated, can a company get, without any resolution to the problem being offered?   MyDell inkjet A940 printer worked fairly well for a few months.    I am doing nothing differently now, but it won't feed.   It bunches up and tries to feed, only to the right.   It ONLY feeds on the right, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a serious design flaw.  I can not print anything!  I am beyond frustrated.  I will be sure to tell all my clients to never ever but a Dell printer.

Let's face it. This A940 Printer stinks. Doesn't matter what the positive posts or moderaors say. I got one..misfeeds, Dell sent a second one, misfeeds. And I have tried using GP 20 & 24 weight as well as Southworth 24 weight resume paper (by the way humidity and plastic dolphins weren't factors). Doesn't matter what anyone says. Dell put out a bad product and it must know it by now. Hey, I Have a Dimension 2350 and I love it. Tech support has been good, but this printer is a piece of junk. End of story.  I was disappointed when customer care told me( On October 2, 2003) they "weren't aware of any problem with the A940" Yeah, right. Then when I asked them to credit my account, it was like they were doing me a favor. Then they told me I was obligated to pay for shipping to send the replacement printer back to them. After spending about 2 hours getting bounced around I was finally able to talk to some guy who understood the situation and agreed to send me a postage label to return the second faulty printer.  Dell has just lost a couple of notches of quality in my book. Hey Dell guys some words of advice...stick with computers.

This is really a joke. I can almost guarantee that they will not do anything to address this issue. I'm not going to waste my time sending it back only to get another one in return that also misfeeds paper. Furthermore, I recently purchased a Latitude D600 notebook that must have went through the same "rigorous" testing standards. (Do a search in the other forums, the hard drive is under the left palm rest and the thing heats up to a point where you could probably fry an egg on it) And to think of all the thousands of other folks who spent $2,500 or more on this gem. If they won't stand by their products and admit to customers their mistakes and work honestly to correct them, they won't be called customers for very long.  So I guess us Dell loyalists who were unfortunate enough to waste a measley $130 for this A940 are simply out of luck?

There is no solution.  Dell will send you a "reconditioned" printer, which will break down like the other one.   I even offered to upgrade the printer, hoping I wouldn't have to deal with this again.  Dell wouldn't allow me to do this, even though I have a paid in full account with them.

The problem has nothing to do with humidity. I live in Arizona where it is very dry. I don't run an air conditioner. My paper is fed in from the paper feed diagonally every time no matter what or how much I use. This is obviously a design flaw. There should be two rollers on each side or one in the middle.

I just wanna say that I am incredibly happy that all of you unfortunate people out there are honest.  I was going to purchase one of these printers because Dell is known to have such great products.  I decided to do a little research regarding this model and found this forum.  You can bet I am definately NOT going to make this purchase.  It is really a shame what you all are going through.  I would rather spend more money and take my business elsewhere, like to HP.  Thank you all for your brutal honesty about this situation.  All I can say to you all: keep fighting Dell, they should not be able to get away with this. The more they ignore you, the more they will lose customers (like me).

Hello;

I am one of the complainants about Dell's customer service and sometimes the replacement A940.

You go MissCrafty. Hopefully you will get a positive response.  Let Dell understand that the way you people are being treated is wrong.  I support your efforts 100%.

My first A940 misfed the paper on the right so badly it was unusable. Dell sent me another one and this one makes a loud clicking noise coming from the left side. Yes I have unlocked the scanner. Now I have two printers that do not work??????

Wow! I am relieved to se all of the complaints about the A940 feeding issue. I thought it was just me. I have found that very heavy, almost card-stock quality paper will go straight. Unfortunately, a small church on a limited budget can't buy expensive Dell 24lb paper all the time. We also can't afford the waste of ink and paper. This thing drinks ink cartridges fast enough without wasting it on the constant mis-feeds. I have resorted to saving text projects to a floppy and taking them down the hall to our old office computer to run on the old HP550c, which may be slow but never gave us this problem! By the way, while I agree that humid paper can be a problem (especially in our photocopier) it has little or nothing to do with a serious design flaw in this machine.  Please consider a change-out to a different unit, even if it might mean a small up-charge after return credit. It would be worth a few more dollars to have a printer I can turn my back on.

So now that we have all experienced the mis-feeds, what is Dell doing about it?  I think the combination of the mis-feeds and the high cost of ink make the Dell printer a bad choice.  I hate to chalk this up to experience and buy a HP replacement but that's where I am headed.

Dell has already replaced the computer when it went up in smoke after the cooling fax stopped working.

Dell can do better.....I think.

Ruddsboro,

Do you find that the ink cartridges run out quicker than other inkjet printers?  I don't do a large amount of printing with mine, so I can't really tell if the ink cartridges run out any quicker than some my old inkjet printers.  I do find the price for the ink cartridges to be about the same as the others.  Fortunately, I haven't suffered the infamous paper misfeed problems.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

The color ink seems to run out very fast.  I get about 30 prints per cartridge - which is about $1.15 a sheet.  While the list price for HP ink and Dell ink is about the same, you can only get Dell ink from Dell.  With HP you can buy it off the Internet for much less - you can even get refills for about 1/3 the list price of a new cartridge.

Hi!  I'm having the exact same problem (which is why I came here in the first place).  It's a brand new printer, same model, I even bought new paper.  It worked for about 5 sheets of paper and now it keeps misfeeding/jamming.  What can we do about it???
Thank you!!!

I'm new to this board, just came on here today for some help with the misfeeding and jamming problem I'm having also with the A940.  After reading the messages from the moderators here, I have come to the conclusion that  1) the A940 is defective and 2) Dell intends to do nothing about it other than post excuses to our complaints as to why the piece of garbage is jamming

Has anyone filed any formal complaints? Just curious.  If so, I would really like to know how and where to do so.  I am so frustrated and fed-up, have tried calling Dell but was told it was my computer, have tried some of the hints here (using heavier paper, using only 1 sheet at a time, etc.)  I finally did get one form to print out halfway, but it's completely illegible, (plus half the page is now shredded and stuck in the printer!).   I would use my old printer, but it's not compatible with Dell  Since I waited months to get this printer, I would sure like to use it!  HELP DELL!!!
