I do have USB flash drives but I have information that is saved on CD disks, like tax information, that I would like to keep altogether. I can access files on the disks. The DVD RW drive plays DVD disks. Incidentally, since I posted, I was able to copy of file to the CD disk, but only to a zipped folder.
I've had the laptop barely over a year; everything should work.

Is there some reason you won't use a more reliable method of copying files to a USB flash drive?
Packet writing to a CD-RW is highly unreliable. I stopped doing it many years ago.
