About :Blank is currently one of the hardest malware to remove - I suggest you follow the data below in my canned post for ASAP to find a site with an expert to help - BleepingComputer has Grinler who is very capable of doing that removal with you, and Subratam at his own site too, as are several at TomCoyotes and Spywareinfo. TomCoyotes have just started special training for thier staff on its removal.

Lots of the regular posting anti-malware experts on this board have moved to pastures new for various reasons. You may find it better to find another support site to assist you.
I will say that most of those sites are overwhelmed with requests for assistance and it is often days before a reply by an expert.

Please go to this link and choose one of the websites on the left of the page.
Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals
As you can see they all work together in cleaning malware (Virus, Spyware and adware).

To help you choose from that list

TomCoyotes contains the anti-malware school - Classroom.
SpyWareInfo contains the anti-malware school - BootCamp.
Net-Intergration is the support site of Spybot S&D.
Lavasoft Support is the support site of Ad-aware.
Wilders Security has since stopped hijackthis log support due to the lack of experianced helpers.
Others that I would recommend (with possibly short responce times) Zerosrealm, BleepingComputer, Subratam.org and SpyWare BeWare, but generally all those on that list will have experts to help you.
Texruss and myself are Teachers at The TomCoyote Forum.

There are still some knowledgable people left posting here at Dell, so you may still get help from them.

I wish you all the best at getting your computer clean.

In the past to remove About:Blank home page Hijack I've used Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis, Adwareaway and CWShredder.

Adwareaway can remove all 4 variants of About:Blank

CWShredder is made to remove all known variants of CoolWebSearch which About:Blank is part of.

Give them a try and let us know how it went.

Hope this helps!

Merijn has ceased updating CWShredder BECAUSE it cannot handle the new About:Blank infection. CWShredder is written in VB and like all 32 bit programs cannot see the supper hidden DLL files, nor remove the service that is installed prior to anything else running on the computer even in safe mode.

Ad-aware & Spybot cannot remove this. Same reason.

Hijackthis is used as PART of the process to remove.

Adwareaway is a paid for removal tool - sorry never used it - will try it on my test box when I can. Have seen lots of claims by paid for programs, like this (not this one) where they are unable to do a complete clean for the same reason that CWShredder cannot.

What about using the About:Blank scanner.  You can get it HERE

Be sure to click the Home tab for instructions (ex. update, scan, reboot, scan)

Unfortunately about:buster only deals with ONE version of About:Blank the one with the ADS service running. This one may be the main other type that has the super hidden DLL file.
