Upgrading Graphics Card On A Inspiron 5100

Question

8/30/04 Hello: I have a Inspiron 5100 in very good shape. I try and use my desktop more because I have gone thur four Laptops and think it was from the heat of the processor wearing down the battery life. Anyway, the reason I am writing is I just bought Doom 3 and I am afraid my Dell Laptop will not be able to handle the game. How hard would it be to get maybe an ATI 128 MB card and install it myself? I have changed hard drives in a laptop, but I believe a video card is going to be a bit harder. I would appreciate any feedback. Larney Sager LLS207@yahoo.com Beaverton, OR

Impossible. The only upgrade option you have is a 64M Radeon 9000 - there are no faster cards made for your chassis.

You must buy from Dell, or third-party removed from a Dell system - these are not off-the-shelf boards - they must come from Compal, the company that made the 5100 systems for Dell.
