@Ltlombardi Same. I bought this Dell laptop for gaming and paid a fortune for it. Whereas I spend days trying to get this Realtek and Waves Maxx to work. I have no words left to express how mad I am. No Dell for me in the future. I used to recommend Dell to every single person who asked for a laptop suggestion. Not anymore.
@Ltlombardi Can you please tell me which Realtek audio driver version are you running? And what version of windows you are on? 1903, 1909? Did it start working after a windows update or something?
I had an issue too with my Latitude 5490 not detecting the microphone of my headset. I found a solution in Realtek HD Audio Manager.
This application may have started at computer startup, in that case you will see it in your system tray (speaker icon with 'Dell Audio' tooltip) and you can start it there.
Otherwise you can start the application (RtkNGUI64.exe for 64bit) from C: > Program Files > Realtek > Audio > HDA.
After opening the Realtek HD Audio Manager a window titled 'Dell Audio' is opened. Go to the Advanced page and select Jack Information. A jack connector will be displayed and can be opened (by clicking on it) if a device is plugged in. Here you should be able to select 'Headset with microphone'. For me this solved the problem.

I tried following the instructions here.. https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Headset-mic-doesn-t-work/td-p/6036232
it didnt work.. I gave up... and then, somehow, after some days, it started working.. I received the popup and after selecting headset, it worked..
But i gotta say, this is very poorly designed.
