What color is power button when you see the blank screen? And steady or blinking?

If you have an add-in video card (eg, AMD or NVidia), did you connect your monitor to the add-in card, not to either of the 2 onboard Intel Graphics ports (HDMI and VGA)?

Both onboard video ports are disabled when an add-in video card is installed...

Re: I have loaded windows 10 on a new hard drive but I am unable to bring up the BIOS as all I have is a blank screen.

Do you mean you had video on screen  before you installed a new hdd?  How did you load Windows 10 on the new hdd?  I presume you were able to see video during Win 10 installation in this pc (unless you meant you loaded Win 10 on the hdd in another pc then moved the hdd over to 660s).

If yes, disconnect the new hdd, do not connect any hdd to the motherboard, do you see any video on screen when you turn on the 660s?

Hi ,

Inbuilt Video card on the board.

Board no D1B75R Pinevalley motherboard.

The fault started with a boot up error I think it was Stat 2 error.

I have managed to get the BIOS up after trying the CMOS rest link procedure and changing the battery.

Yesterday I managed to load Windows 10 onto my new HDD and loaded on Office etc so I know the motherboard and graphics all works.

The problem come when I turn the computer off then turn on after a while the blank screen come up.

With a new motherboard battery which I have tested as health I can only thing my reset procedure on the motherboard link CMOS 1 link by the battery is not right.

I have reset the BIOS to default settings and pressed F10 to save and have the above problem. Blank screen on start up.?

Best regards

Hi Ron,

Power button is white and permanently on.

The Video output is inbuilt into the D175R Pinevalley Motherboard.

I have a problem for a while now bringing up the BIOS using F2

After around 20 starts yesterday the Dell post screen came up I changed the BIOS boot up sequence to load Windows 10 via Microsoft software.

Switched the computer off now I am back with the blank screen.

I have followed the BIOS reset procedure from Dell and am wondering if I am doing something wrong or missing something.?

Best regards

John

Hi

Yes yesterday after around 20 starts the BIOS came up and I was able to load Windows 10 and Microsoft office.

I switched the computer off, turned back on everything is running still blank screen.

Everything was ok yesterday.

Appreciate if I could be talked through the BIOS default rest procedure to ensure I am resetting the BIOS to default.

Best regards

John

Re: The problem come when I turn the computer off then turn on after a while the blank screen come up.

do you mean you have video on screen briefly when you turn pc on, then blank video?

I had a pc that would have video suddenly go blank on screen during bios.  I kept on thinking pc was the issue until one day I found out it was the monitor. after switching monitor issue solved.  If you had intermittent loss of video, try another monitor.

Re: After around 20 starts yesterday the Dell post screen came up

do you mean you keep on switching power on and off for 20 times then all of a sudden pc completes POST?  sounds like can be video display issue, meaning pc is always able to POST, but either monitor or video connection to monitor is flaky.
another thing to rule out is failing psu. borrow a verified working psu to test again.

At startup press F2 and enter the BIOS Setup, does the BIOS see the hard drive is present?

2. If you remove/disconnect the hard drive data cable (or disable the drive in the BIOS setup), does your Dell computer say,

"strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

If the drive is detected properly, but you get only a blinking cursor, yet removing/disconnecting gives you the message in #2 it is a boot loader problem.

3. Run Diagnostics (they are built-in) - When you turn on your computer if you press CTRL + ALT + D (Not Delete) it will say something like:

IDE Drive Diagnostics running, please wait..."

Hi,

Yes I loaded the windows on this computer video was on as I was able to change the BIOS boot up sequence from HDD to USB which is where I loaded windows from. MS Office was a download so the network card works ok.

The F2 command to get into the BIOS has been temperamental over the last couple of days.

I am working if the motherboard has started to fail, but when I start the computer up it sounds normal and the Disk drive light flashes on boot up.

To confirm if I disconnect the disk drive and HDD drive should I still be able to go into the BIOS without these connected..?

Best regards

yes absolutely. access to bios does not need hdd to be present. bios does basic firmware test. the fewer device connected to motherboard the easier to diagnose POST issue.

First thing, test this monitor and cable on a different PC or a different monitor and cable on this PC.

Do I understand that you used the BIOS CMOS1 reset jumper to clear BIOS? Did you put it back on the correct pins afterwards? Not certain, but it probably is supposed be on pins 2+3 for normal use. Look to see if the setting postions are printed on the motherboard, and make sure it's not on the pin marked "CLR" and it's correctly installed in the right place.

Which onboard video port are you using?

With everything connected, reboot and immediately start tapping F12. When the F12 menu opens, look for the option to run diagnostics and run all of them, including RAM (memory) and hard drive tests. Copy error message(s) if any...

Do you have the latest Intel chipset and video driver installed?  Go to the Intel Download site, click Automatically update your drivers and follow the prompts to see if there are any new chipset, management engine or Intel HD Graphics drivers for this PC.
