Skipping during audio playback

Anytime I try to playback audio of any kind, I get a skipping sound every few seconds.  I noticed on another post that you recommended turning off something like a network card.  I have downloaded the latest audio driver for the maestro audio system.  I have a 3com 10/100 mini PCI Ethernet adapter.  Is possible that the network card is trying to look for a connection every few seconds and this is causing the skipping sound?

Thanks for your help.

frenchfri:

What model of Latitude are you using? What Operating System is installed? Approximately how recently did you first begin to experience this problem and do you remember making any hardware or software changes to your configuration directly previous to this first occurring?

Thanks for the response.  I have a Lattitude C600, Windows 2k.  I upgraded from Win98 to win 2k in September and the problem has been happening since then.

Is there a way to turn off or uninstall my microphone as I do not use it, or would this even help?

Thanks,

Mark

Check your printers.  If you have one installed but is not connected to your computer, it may be trying to get information from the printer every second or two.  I uninstalled a Canon Multipass C555 printer and it fixed my problems.

hi mark,

your advice solved the problem! i uninstalled my canon multipass c560 printer and it cleared right up.  thanks for your help!

my problem now is that i can't use my printer.  if this was a desktop rather than a laptop, i could keep the printer connected and perhaps that would solve the problem, but since i use it mobile, that isn't a solution.

maybe i could set it up as a network printer, or get another printer that won't cause this problem....any thoughts?

thanks again for your help.

I contacted Canon product support regarding this problem, and they said,

"The issue is related to the mpservice trying to find the MultiPASS when it is disconnected.  Unfortunately the only way to resolve this issue, is to stop mpservice when you disconnect the MultiPASS from the computer, then start it when the MultiPASS has been reconnected."

To do this in Windows XP:

a. Click Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Administrative Tools - Services.

b. Double-click MPService and choose Stop.

I put a shortcut to "Services" on my desktop, so it's not too much trouble to start and stop MPService.
