Maybe this thread will help you all update to A11...it worked for me today:  "RE: Inspiron 15R N5110, can't download"

I'm new to the Dell Community so I couldn't figure out how to paste the link for some reason.

I have same exact problem, stuck at 12% using a USB bootable drive. Any suggestions to get past this problem?

Thanks folks!

100% working

  1. Create a bootable USB stick by choosing "FreeDos" from the "boot selection" options in Rufus.
  2. Copy N5110A11.exe to the USB stick.
  3. Reboot and repeatedly press F12 to enter the BIOS boot menu.
  4. Boot from the USB stick.
  5. Run N5110A11.exe /FORCEIT.
  6. Done

I too face the same problem. The given solution is not working.

My system's current BIOS Version is A09, tried to update it to A10 and A11, both options struck at 12%

I had the same problem.

Was able to fix it by performing a BIOS reset by removing and putting back the CMOS battery (you have to open up your laptop so please take necessary precautions. There are youtube tutorials on how to do it, I suggest watching those as I did).

After putting it all back, I tried to update the BIOS again using a bootable pendrive, and thank heck it finally went past that 12% !!! I am currently proceeding to upgrade to Windows 10 as I'm writing this comment.

To summarize what I did step-by-step:

  • Turn off laptop. Remove everything connected to it (if there's any).
  • Disassemble laptop 'til you get to your CMOS battery. (It's the small, round battey almost the size of a coin, should be hard to miss).
  • Take it off (maybe clean it with a cloth, I mean I did just to be sure) and put it back.
  • Re-assemble laptop.
  • Insert the pendrive that has the BIOS update.
  • Boot while spamming f12, then choosing the "USB storage device" option.
  • It should show you a cmd like window. On that window, type "dir" to know the name of your executable file with the BIOS update. (It's shown at the bottom).
  • Type the name of the file (in my case it's "N5110A11 EXE"), so I put "N5110A11.EXE" and hit enter. (NOTE: If you're doing this without your laptop battery and just your AC plugged, just type "/forceit" on the end. Should look something like this: "N5110A11.EXE /forceit", and hit enter).
  • There should be a prompt to proceed, go with it.
  • Wait for the update to finish and that's it. You're done!

I can understand your frustration, mate. I spent almost three days trying to fix this, and thankfully found a proper solution. I hope this helps!
