I get the same problem ... very annoying when working on a train!  Nothing seems to silence it.

Try opening a DOS box, type net stop beep!!!  Stops BEEP.SYS ... you can go into the registry and set the BEEP service to start type 4 - disabled to make the change permenant.

Try running the command NET STOP BEEP.  This is no joke, it works!

This stops the BEEP service ... this will be restarted when the system is rebooted, to stop it permenantly, set the BEEP service to manual ot disabled.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Beep

set start from 1 (default) to 0
that should work

Does anyone know if this works on a CPxJ? And could someone walk me through the procedure to make this change permanent?

Open Notepad, copy the text BETWEEN #BEGIN# and #END# and save it to a textfile and name it stop-beep.reg.  Close Notepad, then double-click the file that you just saved.  Done.

##### BEGIN #####

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Beep]
"Start"=dword:00000004

##### END #####
