I managed to resolved the issue through simple steps:

1) Go to Setting -> Apps & features.
2) Search "SupportAssist" -> expand and click Advance options.
3) Choose Repair and afterwards Rest.
4) Finally, SupportAssist will start to response.

It worked for me

Unfortunately I reinstalled windows to fix the problem. Please note that repairing and uninstalling Support Assist had no effect.

Kindly check my problem with OC controls that are dead with or without a reinstall of windows. All I need is a copy of the OC folder in c drive. This worked before.

Hi @MFattal

Please check under Apps and Features do you have below listed SupportAssist.

First is for application and second is for Windows Appx, please repair Appx if you are getting an option.

Regarding your OC controls please check with Dell TechSupport or you can post here because this community is only for SupportAssist only.

I have three identical Dell Optiplex 3060s, and they ALL were experiencing this issue with Support Assist.

I tried:
- Rebooting
- Uninstalling/ReInstalling Support Assist
- Making sure that ALL versions of Support Assist were uninstalled

Finally I gave up and went to the Dell web page to download the driver updates I wanted.  Interestingly, when I went to the web page and used the "find my drivers" option, the Dell web page didn't see that Support Assist was installed.  It had me download a new installer.  When I did that, it told me that my Support Assist was up-to-date, so dead end there too.

I then updated the BIOS and Chipset drivers manually.  AFTER doing that, and rebooting, Dell Support Assist would run without the "an unexpected issue" error.  It found, downloaded, and installed 3 additional drivers on all three machines.

I don't know whether it was the BIOS or the Chipset update (or a combination of both) that fixed it for me.

Might be worth a shot for those continuing to have issues.

Hi @Jaybone5K

Please try to enable TSL 1.2 on your system and check this issue.

Please refer below steps:

  • Open the Tools menu (select the cog near the top-right of Internet Explorer 10), then choose Internet options:
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Scroll down to the Security section at the bottom of the Settings list.
  • Select Use TLS 1.1 and Use TLS 1.2.
  • For extra security, deselect Use SSL 3.0. When complete, your settings should match the following: Selected: Use TLS 1.
  • Selected: Use TLS 1.0, Use TLS 1.1 and Use TLS 1.2
  • Not selected: Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0
  • Select Apply.
  • Select OK.

Dell pls fix your Support Assist its so bad and i could tell there was not a lot of effort put into this new 3.8.1 supportassist version. i cant even update my stuff properly. I end up manually updating stuff either from dell update or from the website because your support assist is awful not trying to be rude but its Awful.

same issue here. tried to post the log and it was too long, and then when i shortened it was told i used "a bad word, pi*pe, in the body of your post. Please clean up the body before posting."

Seriously folks. This is ridiculous.

I noticed that the updates weren't working. Found more updates manually. And now, Outlook doesn't want to work properly.

Same issue. Dm'd the Dell rep on here with the log, also filed a support case.

So far support case has said "uninstall, reboot, redownload, relaunch"

Which I did. But same error.

Hello Friends:

SupportAssist application (ver. 3.8.1) is failing to open, all of a sudden. Upon launching, the black screen hovers for a few minutes, eventually displaying the message:

"We ran into an unexpected Issue with Support Assist. Restart your PC and try again later."

I re-started my PC, and made additional attempts to launch the application, which it failed again, exhibiting the same failure message.

Man, I hate this!
