Sounds like you have virus on your computer. Norton cannot take out a virus if its already on your system. It says that when you first try to install it. See your friendly neighborhood computer store for your fix.
I think nothing to do with virus, more likely your computer got some spyware in it. You can go to Forum-software-window xp, and you can find a lot solution.

If you have changed anything, then it's possible you have a worm on your system. Norton is a P.o.swith this kinda stuff. I don't care what anybody says, Norton just isn't the best. Dell has a thing on the mydoom worm thats out. If I can find the link I'll post it

Get a little program called the cleaner...very good anti-trojan software by moosoft.
You may want to run ad-aware FIRST,then spybot second also.Could be a ton of spyware on there...that really slows them down also,like someone mentioned.
