let's hear it. satisfied or dissatisfied

I don't want to use this thread to hear about the specifics of any problems, I'm just curious to get a percentage of happy A940 owners vs. unhappy.

I'm satisfied.

Did you CALL Dell Support line?  That was the only way I got help after sending 3 emails, I called.

Try it.

Very dissatified! First one misfed the paper.Second one makes a loud clicking noise and yes I have unlocked the scanner.Obviously from the forum replys there is an on going problem with this printer. Dell should replace them all with one that works.

I was dissatisfied but I'm satisfied now.   I had the same problem with my first one.  I got it replaced through a phone call.

CALL.  Don't wait.  It's not worth the hassel.

Good Luck,

Hello;

I just finished filing complaints with the Consumer Affairs Department and suggest that is all else has been tried and you are frustrated with Dell's responses to your complaints and requests or failure to compensate, fix and /or give credits that you do the same.  I have reported them for misrepresentations concerning free shipping and handling and failure to track and issue my missing rebate check.  I am not spending anymore time getting excuses and the run around!

Please join me in standing up for your consumer rights! Get your credits, your repairs, your free s/h if promised and product your charged for, get itemized lists of upgrades your charged for and get your defective products repaired or replaced without being double billed.   It's your right!

Just click on Consumer Affairs.gov in search!

Thank you and Good Luck!

Hi again;

Try selecting fit page and reduce margins to.2 for right and left and .2 for top and bottom, that usually does it for me.  Also remember you don't always need to print the entire web page, Most of the time I can print just the selection I'm after for personal use.  If you click on preferences you can use quick print and at the left bottom select black and white to conserve colored ink when printing whole pages.  And I agree, that if this doesn't fix the problem you can use landscape to fit right side in.  Since I've started to reset my margins I haven't had to do that though.

Good Luck!

Very dissatisfied...  Printer will not print envelopes correctly.  I checked Lexmark's site and it appears to be a known problem with these printers.  Why Dell has not realized this and fixed the drivers is beyond me.  This one is on its way back and I will look for an HP printer to replace it...

I would say for the price and my expected use of the printer - so far after one week of use without any specific problems with the printer.  Using IBM paper 20lbs. without the situations in the posts.  Location is cool dry area of my office. The expectations I had spending the $116.00 (Free S/H from Dell) for the thing along with expected limited use ( @ 20 pg. week - print/fax ) in my home office I would say I'm satisfied to date.  The printer is and was not designed to be the office hound producing 1000+ pages a month.

Totally UNACCEPTABLE  that this product does not have drivers for Win 98.  Win 98 is not an obslolete, "legeacy" OS quite yet -- AND the virtually identical Lexmark printer supports 98...Dell has obviously CHOSEN not to support Win 98, which is not a good customer service move.

I am NOT SATISFIED for this reason alone, although I have had much better experiences with HP printers across the board.  I WILL be buying an HP printer soon to replace this useless piece of junk -- and will NEVER buy a Dell printer again!!!!!

While you may not be happy with the fact that the A940 is not compatible with Windows 98, it clearly states in the product information that this is the case. So if you bought this printer thinking it would work with your OS that is your own fault, not the fault of Dell.

DISSATISFIED!  Lets see where do I start... OK, at the beginning.  My company ordered two high end Dell laptops with docking stations that were to be processed for express delivery due to a rather large and important new contract we were working on for the US Gov.  Without getting into details the order was not handled properly and the five day time it was supposed to take turned into 2 1/2 weeks and cost our company a alot of money and almost our contract!  As a way of "making good" Dell "customer support" (talk about your false advertising) sent us a "free" A940.   Once it arrived we soon found a host of problems such as the paper misfeed issue and inability to share over a network.  These issues along with the fact that ink is only available through Dell for a printer that is made by a company that could be described as the "Hyundai" of the printer world, make it very apparent that Dell has lost touch with its former commitment to quality.  My company will no longer do any business with dell, and that includes ink for this "gift" they have seen so kind as to bestow upon us.  We will use it until the ink runs out then throw it in the dumpster with all the other trash.  I would rather spend another $500 for a reliable HP then give Dell another dime for a lifetime supply of ink for this monstrosity!  There, now I feel better, good luck to the rest of you poor souls who have A940's, your going to need it!

Very satisfied.  Got the printer, followed the directions to a "T" and connected it to my Dimension 8200.  Upgraded to the new drivers from Dell support.

Went to my wirelessly connected Inspiron 1100 and set up the printer without a hitch.

I don't do alot of printing...maybe some occasional scanning.  I went from a Lexmark Z32 to the Dell A940.  I was able to eliminate a cheap UMAX scanner as well.  I've toyed with it all day today and am quite impressed.

Inkjets usually don't hold up with high volume work.  I understand why some may be unhappy.  At least my experience so far has been (being through several printers over the years) if you don't print a whole lot, meaning you're not pumping out 100 pages daily, it's a bargain.  If you run a business that relies on the printer performing high volume tasks, you've got a problem as this is not the printer for you.

As far as ink cartridges go...Dell's appear to be reasonably priced.  I've owned HP inkjets, Canon, and Lexmark, and I don't recall any of them striking me as overly "cheap".

Well...let's hope it holds up.  It appears to be leagues above anything I've owned before.  Good luck to all!

...Just curious?  After you used the install CD did you then install the updated drivers from the Dell downloads website?

Sorry for the problems you are having.

Re: Win 98 drivers.

I bought the printer to work with a new Dell system running XP, but now I want to enable printer sharing and allow printing from some Win 98 machines on my network.  I'd understand if there was a technical reason for there being no Win 98 driver, but when the IDENTICAL Lexmark branded printer does support Win 98, this is clearly a business decision by Dell to manipulate customers into upgrading to XP on all their machines.

I don't care to be manipulated, or to have suppliers artificially limit my choices in the marketplace.

Not that this is a solution to your dilemna, but it's probably that Dell does NOT want to support Windows 98, period.  So if they don't want to support it, then they will not put out drivers for peripherals.  I guess it's a money thing.  When you go to purchase the printer, they don't try to force you to upgrade to win xp or anything.  You just have to be aware that this is what you're getting into when you buy the printer.  Your choices aren't limited.  I saw the identical Lexmark printer on sale at Walmart for $119.

I've heard of some success w/ people using Lexmark drivers???
