problem w/ Inspiron 8000 & Xircom Realport card

Question

I've got an Inspiron 8000 (Win2k) and I'm trying to install a Xircom RealPort Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56 card (REM56G-100)... the OS recognizes the card just fine but the connection never activates (i.e. no traffic either way and no indicator light on the card). I know the card works (tried it in another machine) and I know the PCMCIA slot & Ethernet cable are OK. Is there some incompatibility or setting I'm missing here? BTW, This is the 16-bit, 5volt model...

Did you load the Dell chipset driver for the 8000?  At the top, Product Support - Downloads.
