You did not state which video card you have but you might try setting the screen to the original factory settings and using the video card adjustments available thru the operating system.  Go to the "Advanced" option of the "Settings" tab under "Display".  Depending on the video card, you should have options to adjust color, brightness, contrast, etc.  Also, follow the recommendation shown on one of the other postings and use Microsoft's ClearType fonts for a major improvement in the quality of text shown on your monitor.  Here is the link:

Hi JP Housh,
Thanks for your response. Changing to Clear Type fonts was a good idea - nice improvement. Regarding the lack of vibrant colors: I am using an nVidia GEForce 5200 graphics card. When I went to the Advanced options of the Settings tab, there was no adjustment for color, brightness, etc. Could those adjustments be located elsewhere?
Thanks again.
Richard

Like I said in my message, depending on the video card your options may be different.  When I enter the advanced settings, there is a tab labeled "Color" which contains options to modify the brightness, contrast and gamma levels of the video card.  Yours is obviously different because your card is different.  Go to their website and see if they have a different method of entering different values for these settings.  Do you have an icon on your taskbar that loads when Windows loads that can be selected to pull up the video driver controls?  You may have to do a little work to find it.

Go to your adapters users guide linked here for how to navigate to and adjust color and brightness if you think that is necessary.

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

To access the Color Correction panel:

  1. Open the  nView Display Mode <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> panel.

  2. Click the Device Settings >> option.

  3. Choose Color Correction.

This panel contains a graphical representation of the color curve, which changes in real time as you adjust the Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma values using the sliders.

Digital Vibrance gives you more control over color separation and intensity, resulting in brighter and clearer images in all of your applications. Use the slider to set different levels of Digital Vibrance.

Active color channel allows you to select the color channel controlled by the Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma sliders. You can individually adjust the red, green, and blue channels or select All Channels to adjust all the color channels at once.

Hi Tomintx,
I cannot open the nView Display Mode panel as you suggested. I read the note in the adapter's user's guide to make the nView Display mode visible, but I can't figure out how to do it. According to a "Note," on page 3 of the guide, if I can't see the nView Display guide, it means I have nView DualView (Extended Desktop) mode enabled and I have to turn it off. Following the "Note," on page 3 of the guide, here is what I did to try to turn it off but I couldn't do it: I went to the Display Properties>settings screen, which allows me to adjust screen resolution and color quality. The "Note," states that on that screen, I should, "Click display icon 2 and uncheck the option, Extend my Windows desktop...." I am not sure what, "display icon 2," means. I don't see any display icons on the Display Properties>Settings screen or the choice to uncheck anything. So I looked for, "display icon 2," using the other tabs of the Display Properties screen (other tabs being themes, desktop, screen saver and appearance) but couldn't find, "display icon 2," to uncheck the option, "Extend my Windows desktop..."
Could you please tell me specifically where "display icon 2," is located, so I can uncheck the option, "Extend my Windows desktop," so I can see the nView Display Mode," screen.
Thanks again.
Richard
