Can you view your screen on your TV while not watching a DVD? If not, are you hitting the correct key combination (Fuction keys) to turn on the video for the TV?

IF you can see your computer screen on the TV but not your DVD playing (just a blank viewer, but you get sound, stop the vieing program and turn the viewing off to your TV (via the function keys) and turn it back on. This should resolve your issue.

Thanks and please let me know if this helps.
