Hi! Rabbitdude. Intentional design or carelessness it does not matter, in my opinion. In any case, Dell put a motherboard in the R12 that only offer Gear 2 while also only supporting ram speed up to 3400 Mhz.
Gear 2 normally only improve performance when used with ram kit running at 4000 Mhz and beyond. Because of how Gear 2 operates it negatively impact performance when paired with Ram running at speed lower than 4000 Mhz.
In contrast, Gear 1 offers significant performance gain over Gear 2 when used with ram kit running at the speed supported by the R12 (3200 and 3400 Mhz).
It remains that currently R12’s users are dealing with stuttering and experiencing latency similar to computers who are now outdated by several generations.
Is Dell going to fix the issue with gear 2 on the R12? I agree, they probably will not. Should Dell fix the issue with Gear 2? Yes, I believe they should.
I agree with all your points. Just wanted you to know I was able to upgrade to 3600 g.skill ram. But my results are my own. It’s increased my speed a little bit l, and I obtained ram with better timings so it reduced my latency. Hope that helps any r12 owners. The PC has been working great since I made the change. No complaints.
Note: I don’t participate in e-sports and I don’t use VR (yet).
I doubt they care to fix it now that the R13 is out. But I’ll be happy until the R15 or R17 most likely.

Yep. No performance difference from 1.1.2, no problems though so far

So this does NOT fix the gear1 gear2 issue? I interpreted XMP1/XMP2 actually persisting means gear1/2 also persists?
Will try.

Why would it fix the Gear 1/2 thing? Dell has confirmed Gear 2 lock is by design and won't change

For me, I've found a reduction in CPU and memory performance with 1.1.5.. Around 2-5% slower than 1.1.2
I think I'll flash back to 1.1.2

Hey Stocklaw,
can you share the speed the ram is actually running at in your system, and what xmp profile its on?
And could you also share the timings that you're getting with this ram.
just wanted to get a sense of the changes in numbers.
For me with HWinfo numbers on the latest 1.1.7 bios on the r12 with the stock 3200 kingston ram in xmp 2 are:
Thanks
