The Inspiron 2500 does not have an inbuilt ethernet card. You could purchase either a minipci ethernet card, or an ethernet slot card.

Your machine may already have one in it. Have a look in device manager, or remove the small door in the base. If there is card there, and the cable with many wires is plugged in it does. The other connector with 2 wires means a modem. ( the card could be either or both ) There also may be a lable on the base of the machine.
